first drunk ride
first drunk ride tonite - only fall down 2 times...once because i was about to rear end a jetta. no blood, no frame/wheel damage, no lawsuits, no law enforcement guys. i consider it victory.
|
my first drunk ride involved me flipping over a camoflaged raise manhole cover and summersalting through a park
|
The first night I rode to a party was in February, and an ice storm hit somewhere between 8pm-3am. Riding home I fell so many times, I lost track. I kept slipping on the ice. Funny thing, before I left I stole 3 beers and slid them into the pockets of my Carhart, and by the time I got home, I was wearing all of the beers as a nice beer slushie

I find that when you are moving, you've got inertia on your side so I am not afraid of falling down. The last time I rode home really drunk, I fell down after I got off my bike. I was really having trouble walking straight.
|
Only in this forum....gotta love it.
|
But, officer...I was too drunk to walk. I had to ride."
|
And that, folks, is why we have the Darwin Awards.

i agree. i'm ok once i'm on the bike. usually mounting is more of a problem, especially in heels. |
The old, retired Italian guys here have it mastered...they bar hop almost all day and ride their bikes everywhere.

I ate it on a railroad track last Friday two hours after one beer. Now I have skills.

First drunk ride: going down Bleeker, I think "WTF is that jingling noise?!" I look down and my house keys/bike lock key are dangling from my lock. Had they fallen out I would have been locked out of the house and stuck with a chain around my waist.

I like to go to the local pub and put a big downpayment on a buzz then go for a ride through the city.
I have a flask of Crown Royal mounted to my downtube if I need to make installments. Enjoy |
I woke up one morning after drinking hard. Did inventory, bike, jacket, wallet (no money), phone, keys. My bike was laying on its side right by the front door. I thought someone gave me a ride, but apparently I rode it home. A buddy administered a bike riding sobriety test and said I fell a bunch, but when I took off down the street, I seemed to be obeying the traffic laws. I had a couple random bruises but I can't decide if those were from the ride or if I got loose in the pit (which I don't remember either). If you can't remember it, it didn't happen. I don't advocate drunk riding, but its better than drunk driving.

The bassist from a band I was in a while ago, and notorious sneaks out with his keys driver while drunk, was without a car for a few weeks. Before practice on evening he confesses to me that he is very sore having fallen down 4 or 5 times riding his bike home.
I say: "Well, I guess its a good think you weren't driving." He, and this goes down as one of the more frightening moments of my life, responds with complete sincerity- and no, I am not making this up. "well no, I have never fallen off of my car on the way home." I decided there was no reasonable response to that. |
wow - Milwaukee and Honore. July 15, 2002. My first BUI warning. Ahhh...jack and cokes can bend them spokes when drafting off a car.
A police car... That I rear-ended... But claimed they stopped too fast, and some kids attested to... So I got a warning... And bent front wheel... |
First time i got drunk I was in gr 7 out in the woods where we always had a bomb fire goin anyways me n my buddy split a pint of vodka drinkin it straight. I got wasted and dropped my calculator watch in the fire, on the bike ride home on our bmxs everytime a car came my freind pushed me into the ditch so I wouldnt swerve into the road. i don't remember my first drunken ride... not because i was that hammered, but because it's too long ago...
my last drunken ride was in december... i ended up in the hospital and i haven't been able to ride since... there will be a long celebratory drunken ride when i can get back on the bike... |
