Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Should've gone Tune because #weightweenie while still keeping the balleur anodize. Before I bought my spooky, I was going to buy lightweight alloy clincher climbing wheels. Pacenti SL23 v2 + Sapim CXray + Tune Mig/Mag = 1310g @ 20/24 for a little over $900

white industry laced to tubeless...? ? ? ? yea/nay.

I have a tubeless ready wheelset already but I want to start fleshing out the Kona and moving away from stock parts. So I could just go for it.

Of course tubeless. Schwalbe One tubeless, I think you'd probably be on a cross tire though.

$855 shipped from Novenber. This isn't going to be an incredibly ww build, so I don't really mind. The SL23 v2 rims are already 120g lighter than the XC279, so I'm pretty satisfied with where the weight is already.

They're still lighter than the rest of my wheelsets, so thats a plus.

I do buy lighter things on occasion, but my bike will never be weight weenie light.

I'm planning on it, tentatively. I did a 54 mile road ride on Saturday and was physically cashed. Not sure how I'd hold up racing 62 miles with more than twice as much climb.

Keep yourself fed. Start eating after the first hour and keep yourself hydrated.

I'm very slowly figuring how/when to eat on longer rides. I've managed not to bonk but it could be better.

If you haven't checked out GCN's youtube channel yet -- do yourself a favor and watch some or all of them! GCN is geared more towards road cycling (geared bikes) but almost all of their videos on eat/training etc can apply to FG/SS..

shove something down your foodhole every 15-30 mins with 20ish grams of carbs, and right before a big climb/effort if you know its coming.

drink water every time you eat. the drier the food the more water it will take to digest (think clif bar or crackers [lots of water needed] vs dates or a banana [less water needed, has more water in it already])

finish a bottles worth of water every 45-60 mins.

dont redline the entire time. concentrate more on the exhale and let the inhale happen naturally.

profit.

easiest and one of the best energy bars: equal parts dates/nut of choice/dried fruit (non sulphured) put in food processor (blender works but you gotta keep stoking it with a spatula which can be annoying) till it becomes a ball

put it between 2 pieces of wax paper and flatten it out, refrigerate and cut into your favorite polygon. wrap em in paper or foil and you wont get sticky hands either
