Big BMX type fram for fixed mtb?

Hey all,
I recently saw some Azonic BMX type frames that had completely horizontal drop outs. The lit said it would accomodate 26 inch wheels, which would make a nice winter bike for the minnesota winters. Has anyone built a fixie from this type of frame or have any experience with this sort of thing? Any comment welcome..

Thanks in Advance,
Shannon

Bikes: yes please.

is it the azonic steelhead or the ds-1/ds-2/eliminatorII? these frames are more designed for dual slalom/4cross/urban assault riding... the steelhead only comes in two sizes and those are only a difference in the top tube length. the seattube is 15" c-t on both. these frames are great in those applications though. something like a surly 1x1, iro highlander, etc. may be a better frame for more general commuting or riding... but whatever floats your boat.

I'd go for a Surly 1x1 or Karate Monkey or a Fireman's Texas Cruiser

I have a BMX cruiser that I built up about 6 years ago that sounds similar to that. I built is as a single speed freewheel with a Spot Brand hub.

I am guessing that the rear spacing is 135mm which gives you alot of hub options.

Check the following Sheldon Brown page for more info

Go for a complete Redline Monocog. They're cheaper than Surly and I've had mine for a few years now and been completely happy.

monocog seconded! all you'd need is a fixed cog attached to the flipside of the freewheel and your good to go.

the frames are cheap as dirt, sturdy as h@ll, and ride nice!

So is the monocog a better ride than an IRO highlander? The prices are close.

I really don't think the Firemans bikes are all that nice. I see them around here all the time, and the welds are really sloppy on some of them. Maybe ive just seen a few bad ones. I should go by their shop sometime and check out the display models.

monocogs are 110 spacing in the back, so your hub choices are much more limited. i'd rather have a monocog than a highlander any day. i like the geometry better.

Is the IRO aluminum?

I bought my Monocog in Milwaukee for $200 a few years back. It's super fun to ride and can take a beatin'.

It's my city / drunken cruiser. For the price it can't be beat. I'd like a Surly (because it simply says Surly & Surly is cool) but the Redline has taken a place in my heart.
