Bolivia Bicycle Recycle ?
I love saving bicycles from destruction. For years I have been pulling them out of dumpsters, fixing them up and then watching them rot because here in Northern Canada there is almost no market for used bicycles most of the year. During the last few days I have been thinking about exporting them to a third world country for reconditioning and sale or giveaway. I was also thinking that shipping containers filled with used bikes could be topped off with used clothing for dirt cheap resale. In the beginning clothing sales could be used to pay for training and equipment for bike reconditioning.
Does anyone know whether there would be a market for used bike sales and rentals in Bolivia ? Are there other Latin American countries that this concept might be more viable ?
During the next few days I'm going to incorporate a non profit society for this purpose. I already have about a half ton of clothing and 20 bicycles to potentially ship. With only nominal effort I could easily salvage hundreds more bicycles from local dumps and also raise tons and tons of clothing.
