Another update on the Silver Comet Trail extension

Here's another article by Haisten Willis about the upcoming extension of the Silver Comet Trail. The CSX deal makes the stretch from the trailhead at Mavell Road to Plant Atkinson Road straightforward. The tricky part will be getting it from there to the Chattahoochee, even though it's not that far away. CSX still has active track past Plant Atkinson, so the trail will have to follow some other path to cross the river.

But this is still fantastic.

I still have very little understanding as to why the Atlanta Rd bridge wouldn't be widened with the other improvements to "foot" paths related to the Stadium. It is right there isn't it?

The crossing over the river is quite a distance from SunTrust Park. US 41 (Cobb Parkway) runs in front of the stadium. At its closest Atlanta Road is a few miles from the stadium. According to my quick surface roads check on Google maps the stadium is 6 miles from the Atlanta Road crossing of the river.

That said, I think ultimately the path chosen might indeed be Atlanta Road, since it's unlikely the remaining CSX path will be used.
