My ride today was very good very hot/humid but no wind to speak of, I rode with my usual Tuesday ride partner today.
Miles today: 57+
Mileage this month APRIL: 612+
Mileage this year: 2620+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 37.4%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -2 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +267 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 37+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 51+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4379, this could very well be an 800 mile month (best ever) and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

We had great weather this morning, 73⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 91⁰F with no wind when I got back. Met my friend Richard at the trail head and we rode north on the trail to Mandarin then back to the trail to Panera for bagels and iced tea. We rode north through Heathrow which was very shady and cool. We then took Orange Ave. to Deer Path and turned around and headed south. We turned west on Sylvan Lake Rd to the northern trail head where we took our second break. Due to the temp getting into the 90s (my computer was reading 99) we stayed on the trail back to Heathrow and Panera where we refilled our water bottles then continued on south. We decided to add a few miles so we cut through Wing Field Reserve. As we went passed the location that I had seen the deer yesterday low and behold there they stood again. We stopped and watched them for a while before the moved off into the woods (should have taken the camera). From there it was back on the trail and home. It was a perfect day.

Wildlife count today: 3 deer. 4 Sand Hill Cranes and 2 chicks, 1 Red Tail Hawk, and 1 Black Snake and 6 wild turkeys. Although not wild life we saw lots of goats today in two different locations.

Tomorrow might be a rest day…

44 mile solo ride today from Enid to Goltry OK and back. winds 25-35 out of NW. headwind out, tailwind back. averaged 18.4 mph. slowly getting faster. managed to start small cattle stampede. evidently not too many cycles out that way grunt/yelling up the hills.

My ride today was very good very hot/humid but no wind to speak of, I rode with my usual Thursday ride partners (Jim and Dick) today.
Miles today: 52+
Mileage this month APRIL: 665+
Mileage this year: 2673+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 38%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -3 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +246 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 37+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 51+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4326, this could very well be an 800 mile month (best ever) and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

We had great weather this morning, 73⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 85⁰F with no wind when I got back. Met my friends Richard and Jim at the trail head and we rode north on the trail to Mandarin where we do about a 4 mile loop, then back to the trail and Panera Bread for bagels and iced tea and coffee. We rode north through Heathrow which was very shady and cool and picturesque. We then took Orange Ave. to Deer Path and turned around and headed south. We turned west on Sylvan Lake Rd to the northern trail head where we took our second break. Jim and I like to do a drag race across Sylvan Lake Road which is about 2.5 miles in length. We covered that maintaining 24 MPH and I could not drop him. He gets down on the aero bars and just sucks on my wheel. We took another break at the trail head and then headed home. We stopped at Panera where we refilled our water bottles then continued on south. We decided to add a few miles so we cut through Wing Field Reserve. The deer were not to be found today. From Wingfield it was back on the trail and home. It was a perfect day.

Wildlife count today: 1 snake, 4 Sand Hill Cranes and no chicks, 1 Red Tail Hawk.

Tomorrow might be a shorter ride day…it will be a solo ride.

Keep on rolling slowspoke.... Miles roll by when you have company. The 2 friends that had been riding with me have both went AWOL as far as riding goes. They have more excuses not to ride than I do.. And I'm pretty good with the excuses...

Anyway.... Short ride on the mountain bike to the post office and a bit further.. 12.28 miles A short ride is better than no ride!! At least my legs did NOT feel like led today.... So that was/is a good sign.

How dare the school allow those kids to play football in the middle of my personal track!!! Just kidding! As much as I dislike football, I love kids playing football. Good good memories.
Gotta be flexible on the bike and off. Quick change of plans (and pedals) and I was off the trackie and offroading. One of the good things about living in a hay field is not having to commute to a trail. Bad part is just how quickly my trail gets overgrown in warm weather. Fighting thru the grassy parts was like the sand you Fla guys battle. I dunno - maybe 5 - 6 miles. Computer crapped out years ago and I never bothered to replace it. I just rode 'til I'd completely lost my composure. Good day.
I gotta get my road bike back up and running. Really starting to miss her!

I went out with the local group today, I rode 6 miles to the startoff point, rode 33 miles with them, and another 6 back home for 45 total. I'm definitely getting stronger on the bike, we had headwinds for a good part of the ride but we made it through. Under 4 hours total, 3:17 on the bike.

Here's a shot of most of the group at a rest stop. There were some guys there, they had gone into the store to get some water. Half the group turned around and only did 20 miles, 4 of us went on and did a 13 mile loop and then headed back. These ladies are hilarious!

Everyone hopes that the owner does not sell to a developer. The view is great and the horses and cows come up to the fence and get fed all of the time. People love to pose there kids with the horses when they are out. It is very relaxing. The trail runs between where I stood to take the photo and the fence in the foreground. Great place for cyclist.

Well, we are back from our camping/biking weekend. We camped at Stephen Foster State Park and on Saturday we biked over at Little/Big shoals Public Lands. (Just after we left I realized I left my camera in the RV so sorry no pictures this weekend).
We parked at the entrance to Little Shoals and took the 3.5 mile paved trail to the end. I had looked at the map and thought we might try to ride the blue trail that showed at the end. Wrong!! We opted out of that trail as it went down pretty drastically (with steps) and Hubby had forgot his helmet. We turned around and decided to go down Road #2 (another blue marked trail) which ran into the Big Shoals area. We followed that road (which was double track and mostly shellrock/hard packed with some sugar sand) We did see one wild turkey (must have been the only one left as last weekend was Spring Turkey Season). There were some places where you could tell that if there had been rain, we would have had to forge a stream or go through some water. We found a few places on the trail that were muddy but not really bad at all. Made our way back to Road #1 and the Equestrian Parking area. I will say that the signs inside this area are great. At each intersection there were numbers and luckily I had taken a map so we knew exactly where we were. After leaving the Equestrian parking area and heading back towards our vehicle, we did run into an area of sugar sand. Had to walk the bikes for awhile and then we spotted an entrance back to the paved trail so we jumped over on it.
The weather was perfect for riding as we started out early before it go too hot. Overall only about 10 miles total but a great place to ride and enjoy the scenery. I do wish we would have found our way down to the River to see the rapids. I had no clue that Fl even had rapids. However, the water was really low so there may not have been any at this time of the year. My other regret is that I forgot the camera.....and we both picked up ticks somewhere along the way. Here's the map from the Suwannee River Bike organization. Great map
https://www.suwanneebike.org/images/maps/bigshoals.bmp

After that we headed back to town and had BBQ at Fat Bellys. Later in the afternoon we rode the trails behind the campgrounds. Some of them were also pretty sandy. (Did I say I hate sugar sand?) Anyway, overall nice place to camp and enjoyed the Shoals and Stephen Foster State Park.

Did an early ride today because we had to be at our neighbor's house at 2PM for the Easter feast.
Did 30 miles. Lots of other early riders today and very few cars. I guess everyone was at home looking for Easter eggs.

Did the same 30 miles as yesterday but on the Specialized. Spent most of the ride determining what things to change/adjust to make the ride as smooth as the Litespeed.

15 miles in a (boring) rolling loop around the neighborhood in anticipation of a shortened ride due to severe storms this afternoon, then a short 1.5 mile commute to the office. Hope for a longer commute home today, since 90% of tomorrow will be spent in a plane and a car.

My ride today was with my Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday ride partner.
Miles today: 56+
Mileage this month APRIL: 856+ this could well be a 950 or 1,000 mile month (best ever)
Mileage this year: 2864+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 41%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -2 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +329 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 38+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 50+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4135, and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

Could not sleep last night so I left the house well before sun up to get a few miles in before meeting my Tuesday ride partner at the San Sebastian Trail head at 7:30 AM. I rode down to the tunnel but it was still locked and wasn’t due to open until daybreak. I turned around and rode back to the Burger King and got a cup of coffee. I got back on the trail and rode to Spring Oaks where I can get a nice 5.5 mile loop with very little traffic. By the time I finished that and rode back to the trail head it was daylight and I had 12 miles in already. We had great weather this morning, 71⁰F when I left home at 5:30 AM and 84⁰F with East South East winds from 10 to 14 mph when I got back. However the humidity was brutal. We headed north on the trail to Mandarin where we did the 4 mile loop, then back to the trail and on to Panera Bread for bagels and iced tea. After leaving Panera we headed north through Heathrow to Deer Path which is north of SR 46. Then back to Sylvan Lake Rd and west to the park. We did the normal loop in the park then to the northern trail head where we took our second break. Then it was homeward bound and into the wind, it was a perfect day.

Tomorrow I plan a solo ride if the weather is good.

Yep... 12.5 miles or so on the mountain bike again. Post office and then a bit further to go fix a PC that could not get on the internet. I really like those kids of rides, the kind that save me a bit of money on gas.... even if it is only a little. I figure I saved about 2/3 of a gallon of gas...

Yep, Took a little break from working, went for a ride on my NEW ride About 7.5 miles total, about half on road & half on the trails. Stopped a few times to adjust stuff. (seat handlebars).

Couple of pictures of my new ride (not that great taken with phone).... 2011 Rocky Mountain Vertex 29'er.. Lockout front forks, hydraulic disc brakes, shimano deore shifters.. My first 29'er. It really likes to roll once you get it moving.

Yep, rode to work Monday & Thursday this week and today rode out to lunch & the post office. Yesterday and today were just perfect. Low 70s, sunny. The way home yesterday was a little breezy. I decided to take Peachtree St. At a couple of intersections I got hit with some pretty strong cross breezes. Today was work from home day, but I rode up to the Urban Picnic at Sweet Auburn Curb Market for lunch with a bunch of people. On the way there, I saw a dude rolling down the street on some crazy chopper franken bike, no tire on the back, just rim. Wow, just wow. Should've gotten a picture of that....

As reliable and bombproof as my commuter is, riding my road bike is so much more fun.

04/30/2011

My ride today was with my Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday ride partner, Jim and his wife.
Miles today: 52.6
Mileage this month APRIL: 962+ this is my best month ever
Mileage this year: 2970+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 42+%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -4 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +343 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 38+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 50+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4029, and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.
I rode places today that I have never been before and probably could not find them again without my guide and his wife. It was a beautiful day and a perfect ride.

Tomorrow I plan a solo ride if the weather is good.

Very nice looking ride. From what I have seen and heard they build a nice bike. Enjoy it.

congrats on the new bike! Looks nice! My Trek hybrid is a 29er. Mountain bike is not. Hubby says that's what we need though. Guess you can never have enough bikes.
