Today’s ride:
01/07/2012 63+ miles
Rode with Dick and Jim. Rode on the new trail out to SR. 15 in Osteen. Weather was chilly in the morning but warmed up as we rode out. Stopped at Panera for breakfast going out and lunch on the return trip. Dick had a flat just as we left Panera after lunch so he walked over to David’s World Cycle to get it fixed. Good timing.

Yep... Got out for a ride today. Wasn't sure If I was going to go there has been a lot of smoke in the air. But It cleared up some so I decided to ride... Started at the hospital rode to the Rice Creek entrance on SR20 and rode across to SR100 and back to the hospital. About 13 miles or so... 1hr 16min on the bike + 10 minute walk across the 1600 foot boardwalk, in bike shoes with the bike stood up on the back wheel..

I have never ever seen anybody else while out on these trails.... until today. In the middle of the boardwalk a couple jumped down and let me pass with my bike.. (nice of them). And then on the other side of the boardwalk saw a father & son. And then a whole troop of cub scouts. It was really cool seeing other people out enjoying the trails..

Great ride...

Yep... Was going to ride the road bike to the hospital to visit with my mom... But seems I forgot the combination to the lock I have on the "touring bike" that I was going to take with me. The other locks I have are way to big to carry or find a place to carry on the road bike. Sooo dusted off the "touring bike" and loaded up a big thermos of coffee & some snacks for mom. Ended up riding about 23 miles... Glad I took a ride.... but just wasn't feeling it .... whatever "it" is on the bike today. I guess the highlight was 2 younger guys that passed me in a car miles before saw me at the gas station later on and said I had a quote "bad ass bike"... LOL

Thats cool..... What color? Are you taking some before and after pictures to share with us? Would really enjoy seeing some.

What are you going to do for a week? Do you have a backup bike? :P

This afternoon I rode about 20 miles. Nice sunny day with snow along the sides of the roads.

Last Tuesday was my first day back after 2+ weeks of Christmas holidays and no riding..wow I wouldn't say I was gassing out but it took me until Friday to get my steam back to where I was happy with it.

Today should be a good ride.

The rain finally stopped and the sun came out -- sort of  -- so I had to get out. The wind was kind of stiff at times but I was tired of being stuck inside.
64 degrees when I left home so no need for knee warmers. Got about 9-10 miles from home and the wind really picked up. The sun kept going behind some dark clouds so I decided to head for home. I had a strong headwind all the way home. About 4 miles from home it tried to sprinkle on me but it didn't last long enough for me to get wet. Thank goodness, cause I was starting to get a little cool with the wind and no sun. At various times my speed was all of ~10-11 mph riding into the wind. :notamused:
It was 55 degrees when I finally got home. Total of 19 miles. :o

A friend and I did 37 miles through the swamps around my house. Stopped at a loop off the main highway, and then went to a local coffee shop! Had a great time, temp was about 29 when we left. This was our turnaround point.

Rode for 45 minutes on the trainer yesterday. :o
Today was a little warmer (44 when I left home) so I rode out to Stone Mtn on the Litespeed. Only did one lap :( and rode home -- 28 miles.

After being stuck in the house for the past week with an upper respiratory infection, finally got out today with the Wife and Kids. Was a short trip, just 4 miles, but was glad to finally get out of the house and back on the bike.

Just wondering how the leg is feeling? Still working on the trike?

Thanks for asking! I felt pretty good riding yesterday, but I'm pretty beat today. I haven't had time to finish the trike's wheels, but I will definitely finish it (I spent too much time and money on it to quit) and will ride it as much as I can. No real leg pain, but I can tell I worked it hard. Feels like I rode 100 when I only did 37.

My goal is to get enough miles in this year to do another 200K. I don't know if I will be able to, but I'm going to try. Definitely am going to do the MS150 in October. Right now, 40 miles pretty much wipes me out, but I'm getting better!

Rode 34 miles from Gainesville through Micanopy and back on 121 with the Gainesville Cycling Club Saddle Tramps group! Great group, terrific roads to ride. Here's a photo at a neat little store in Micanopy.

I rode....... But not really... Put a new shifter cable & housing on my old Tassajara mountain bike. And re-installed the front brakes (stole the brake studs off of it to put on the tour bike). Took it for a short test ride.. Still not over this flu but that has had me down for 4 or 5 days. Feeling lots better but not quite good enough for a longer ride. Anyway now that I have the old bike in order the one friend will have to think of NEW excuses not to ride with me... LOL

01/17/2012 59+ miles
Rode with some friends Jobo, John and Jim to Oak Hill FL on the Indian River just south of New Smyrna Beach for lunch at Goodriche’s Seafood house. Great meal, very windy ride and since I have not been on the bike much since Christmas I was pretty whipped when we got back. All in all it was a great ride. We rode on the new Spring to Spring Trail out to SR. 15 in Osteen then took Maytown Road to Oak Hill.

Trail View Mount needs to ride this trail and do one of his reviews. It is very rideable now but some construction is still going on. It will be about 13 miles in length and IMO will be one of the best trails in Central FL. At about the 5.5 mile mark you can stop and visit The DeBary Historic Mansion then visit some very nice parks as you continue on.

Today’s ride:

01/21/2012 36+ miles

Rode with about 15 Florida Freewheeler club members this morning, from CCM to UCF east side. Very fast pace, this was supposed to be an ABC ride but turned out to be a very solid B pace. I hung on for about 19 miles to the first rest stop and when we started up again my legs were shot and I got dropped. Weather was perfect high 60s to low 70s and lots of blue sky but some pretty strong headwinds. Lot’s of big groups out today, passed several with 10 to 20 riders each.

Decided to give it a shot. Had my hip injection on Tuesday and it's been feeling ok. Went down to the Central Ridge Park near Holder and rode the Withlachochee Trail. Decided to take it easy and we only did about 6 miles or so. Hoping this injection lasts me until after tax season. Did feel good to get back on the bike.

Yep, Rode about 7 miles in the woods and about 10.67 miles on the pavement to and from the trails. For a total of about 17.67 miles.. Great ride perfect temps... My head is still a bit stuffed up.. But felt pretty good on the bike...

FunkyStickman 01-23-12 09:02 AM

Howdy folks! Got a couple of rides in, did about 30 miles with the local club Saturday, I was the only guy there on a steel bike... 1 AL, 2 Ti, 8 Carbon, and my "Cadillac Bike" LHT. I kept up with some of the guys pushing 20 MPH at one point (with the help of a stout tailwind) and I hit 25MPH once! Fantastic ride.

FunkyStickman 01-24-12 09:48 AM

Did another 10 around the neighborhood, temps were in the 50's, felt great!

Did 8.5 this morning, rode down a gravel road, but realized too late it was freshly graded and too rough and muddy. I'll be resting tomorrow, and will tear down and clean the bike instead, so I can do a nice long ride Saturday.

Keep riding!

RonH 01-25-12 05:02 PM

I was hoping to ride yesterday since the rain finally went away. I haven't been out for about 10-12 days. Didn't happen. My wife got sick and I had to nurse her back to health.
Today she is much better so I got to ride. As soon as I got to Stone Mtn the sky got dark and I thought it was going to rain. No rain. YAY!! :) Just dark, cloudy skies.
Only did 28 miles. :o
