Took the Litespeed out today to battle the wind. Nice ride going north and nicer ride heading south. :)
|
Rode to work despite cooler weather, wind, and rain. Gee how I love the Springtime.
|
Took the Cannondale out today. Had a nice headwind riding north but a nicer tailwind riding south. :)

Took the Litespeed out for my last ride for about a month. My prostate surgery left my abdominal muscles weak and I have developed a hernia, just to left of my navel. It looks like I swallowed a large grapefruit - whole. I'm having the surgery May 12. The surgeon said it will be outpatient so I'll be home early afternoon. Then I get to look at the bikes hanging in the garage for at least 3 weeks. He said we'll discuss riding at my followup visit on May 31. Got my fingers crossed.
This would happen just when I finally got all the parts to repair my worn out 9-speed drivetrain. I won't be able to lift anything heavier than 10# so my wife will have to get the Litespeed off the bike holder so I can replace the chainrings, cassette and chain. Or maybe I'll wait until the doc says I can get back to "normal" activities. And my new wheels for the Cannondale from PSIMet.com (Bike Forums member Psimet2001) should be here in another week to 10 days. They too will have to sit in the garage waiting for that first ride. :o I have 5 small scars from the prostate surgery. The surgeon said he will make 3 or maybe 4 small incisions to do the repair. My wife said she's going to play "connect the dots" on my abdomen after I heal up and with 8 or 9 "dots" she'll have lots of fun. |
^^^ Hope you're recovering well RonH - I feel bad being off the bike for just one day! I road 230 miles over Memorial weekend and have started my "hill" training for the 6Gap ride in Sept. Riding the northern portion of the Suncoast trail, SR 50 north, along with rides near Brooksville and San Antonio!

Its been 5 weeks since my surgery and the doc said I could ride. :D
It looked dark and gloomy when I left the house around 7:30 this morning but i was determined to get out on the Litespeed with its newly rebuilt drivetrain. It was even darker when I got to the Withlacoochee Trail but I decided to go for it. I got 2.5 miles south when it started spitting. I didn't feel like taking a spill on the wet trail so turned around and headed for the car. It was raining by the time I got back to the car and the grassy parking area was muddy. So my clean bike is dirty. :( Guess I'll clean it up later. If there's no rain tomorrow I'll head out again for a longer ride. :fingers crossed: |
Ron,
Glad to hear you're back on the bike. You were a brave man to venture out this morning. I got dressed to go for a ride, had breakfast and then checked the radar. Didn't look very good, but I was determined - until I opened the garage door and hear the thunder. Oh well... So, around 1:00, I checked the radar and all the rain was south of Ocala. Took a look at the road and it wasn't too wet. Checked the temperature - 73 degrees! Wow! Jumped back into my cycling clothes and took off for a ride. Looked to the west and saw blue sky, so I decided to ride until my Garmin 500 temperature reading was 90 degrees (i.e. the sun came back out). Got in 14 miles and the temp said 89.9 so decided to head back to the house. I'll probably ride the Trail Sunday our of Inverness or Hernando. I'll keep an eye out for you if you're riding. |
Yes, Sue. It was a crap shoot yesterday. I was chompin' at the bit. I hadn't been on the bike in over 5 weeks so it felt good to do even a short ride.
The weather was much nicer today and I took the Cannondale out. Rode to the bike shop to show off my new wheels. Danny wasn't impressed. Sherry liked them. I'll take some pictures later and post them. Rode a whopping 10.5 miles today. :) |

With the job I accepted back in Oct of last year, my time for riding has been eliminated due to needed recovery over my time off. I have in less than 300 miles for the year and haven't done over 20 in one ride since last November. I opted to change that with this week being my last on this current job where I will be returning to working from home and off my feet.
I have set myself a goal or challenge of sorts that I ride at least 30 mins every day of the week weather will permit on my lunch break. It's not much, but should net me 20 or so more miles a week than I am doing now. My weight has increased to the point I can't even currently ride my Roubaix and be within the safety margin for my wheels and seatpost.... Did five yesterday and going to head out soon for another. Got to make more than my bi-monthly social rides. |
^^^
Sorry to hear this. Good luck getting in more miles. |

Got out today in the cool morning temperatures. Felt great. :D Rode from Hernando to the Citrus Springs trailhead and back to Hernando for a total of 13.5 miles. I hope I'll be back to my regular mileage by the end of the month. :thumb:

I went down to Inverness and then rode to the Istachatta Post Office and back - 28 miles. Longest ride I've had on the trike. Took three hours -- I may go back to the DF < LOL > which would have been a lot quicker.

I got a late start today so only rode 13.8 miles. The heat was getting to be too much so turned and headed back to the car before I had intended. :(

The grandkids (and their grandmother) kept me busy this morning. But when they went off to play at the pool... I jumped on my bike. I originally was thinking a fast ride followed by a Starbucks coffee.. and then hurry back home. But once riding a decided for a longer (20 mile) ride and no stops.
Because it was afternoon... the temperature was above 90F. I decided an activity induced hard sweat on a hot day is healthy for a senior citizen. Because if it wasn't healthy... it might be foolish. |
Did 12 miles with Critical Mass last night. The weather was awesome, the socializing was great, had an awesome time. Looking forward to some more riding this weekend.

I didn't ride today but I finally got around to taking a pic of the Cannondale with the new wheels. I'll be taking it out on Tuesday.
Here's the before pic with the Vision wheels that I sold. http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps4ewsybgm.jpg Here's the bike with the new wheels from PSIMet.com. They're awesome and the ride is even more comfortable than on the carbon wheels. :thumb: http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/o...psnuwoe2wz.jpg |
The family and I went out for a short ride yesterday. As we neared location it started raining a bit harder than we like to ride in, so we stopped for lunch. Sitting on the patio to watch the bikes and it didn't rain a single drop. We finished lunch and decided to go to another location to ride, and it started raining on the way there. We went ahead and did the ride. Even though it didn't let loose on us, it was still really thick.
In spite of this, this is the first month I have been back "on track" with my riding progress all year. I have in more riding this month than about three others so far. If I can get in 14 miles three days each before Friday I will have 300 miles for the year. |
It's been a good couple of weeks of riding for me. Picked up a new bike on 6/8 and already have 250 miles on it. The weekend was kinda strange, club ride on Saturday on the road bike where it was hot, hot, hot and we set a bunch of Strava PRs and a few top tens. Then Sunday was a trail ride and we started late; I thought we were going to get killed in the heat, but it was cooler for the entire ride than Saturday, for late June in Florida, it was pleasant when we finished. Working on a 5 day ride streak, hoping to keep it up this week with commuting and starting to plan (scheme) ahead to the fall riding season.

Took the Litespeed out cause the Cannondale is still on the "disabled list". Waiting for new tires. It was late when I got to the trail. :( Rode from Hernando north for 8+ miles and turned around to head bad to the car. Did a total of 16.5 miles. The heat was awful today. :notamused:
|
Got out a little earlier today. Added a few more miles to my total - 19.2 miles. :) I should be back to my usual mileage and speed in a few more weeks. :)

Went out for a nice family ride today down at the Peachtree City golf paths. The wife's new DF is working out well, all things considered.
Heading down to Tampa for a few days with the wife. Doing a ride there on Saturday called the Tampa History Bike Tour. Looks like it's going to be a blast creeping around Davis Island. Going to try to hit Longboat and Siesta Key, as well as Terra Ceia while we are down. Got a great cuban ruben in mind for the route back from TC. Fun times ahead. See y'all next week. |

Will you be stopping at the Columbia Restaurant? :thumb:
