No ride today...... :( .... But I did re-tape my bars and fix the camera mount. Also put a new faucet on the kitchen sink... after the hot water handle just blew off spraying HOT water all over... Of course that happened just before my usual ride time. No ride today because of the kitchen catastrophe but will try again tomorrow...
mrz80 .... Welcome to the "did you ride today" thread.... I have never ridden down Millhopper, but I used to ride down 39th from about 13th towards I75 back when my nephew had a orthodontist appointments every month. There are some pretty good hills there for sure. Now about the only riding I do towards G.ville way is on the G.ville Hawthorne trail.

=== Well, managed to get out and get another 18-1/2 miles in yesterday. Did a couple laps around Lake Alice on the UF campus; went by a speed trap on Museum Road and the campus cop says "16! Keep pushin'!" Wanted to ask him, "If I cross 20 you gonna cite me?" but next lap around he'd gone. :) I'm thinking about maybe every other Thursday racking the bike, and spending an hour hammering laps around Lake Alice after work, with the occasional detour up the hill from Shands to the old Museum. That'll be a good cardiac workout. Bike's holding up well, though I think it's time to pull and repack the bottom bracket, and the lock nut on th' headset's worked loose again. Time to get out the bike wrenches and a tube o' Phil! :) |
I got out this morning, hadn't ridden since Saturday... and I could feel it. My legs felt like butter, and my backside was on fire. Definitely don't want to go that long without riding again.
I did 13.5 miles and just barely beat the rain before getting home. That nasty tropical depression in the gulf is causing all kinds of ruckus. On a good note, I did some after-hours computer work for a friend, and now I have a little money to play with! :D |
Had to go to G.vile today.. So after running around doing a few things I got dropped off on Waldo road at the connector trail to the G.ville H.thorne trail. So rode the connector & the G.ville trail to Hawthorne and my ride was still messing around in g.ville. So I decided to start riding back towards g.ville on SR20. Ended up riding 22.64 miles today. Felt bad for the first 5 miles or so, maybe because I hit all of the hills on the trail before I got warmed up, not sure. After that though i felt pretty good the rest of the ride. Again wind out of the east and pretty much in my face going towards Hawthorne, but the trees blocked a LOT of it. When I turned back towards town I had a nice tail wind for about 6 miles till I got picked up. ....... GREAT ride.. Not as hot again today....
mrz80 ... You ever ride the g.ville hawthorne trail? Just curious. |
30 miles this evening.. got in a little later than I planned because a park ranger was nice enough to pull over and suggest I take a detour to hike up to an overlook of Mound Bottom The Last 8 miles were in the dark (1/2 watt blaze.. enough to get by on) and got chased by two dogs, in the dark. (I hate that) Had to use my phone camera because my camera lens was all misty from sweat / humidity and I didn't have anything dry to wipe it with. Should have thought to pack it in a baggie when it's in the 90s out... Bluff view of mounds sign about the bluff pic after sunset

Yes I did! This morning I rode into work. After sitting on my bike last night, I decided not to adjust my seat to try and help some knee pain. Honestly I think the seat height is correct. So instead I tried to take it easier and really make sure not to mash on hills. And I might've taken a Motrin horse pill before I left as insurance. It seemed a little better when I got to work. Conveniently, I have a follow-up doctor's appointment next week for a back issue that was manifesting as leg pain. The knee could be tied into that.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Tuesday on my way to work I saw my "way to travel" wheelchair guy again. Still cheering me on, but now he's getting around with a cane. Good for him! This morning I actually saw a few bikes out and about. Tuesday I saw none. Pulled up next to one guy while waiting for a light. He seemed startled that I said "how's it goin'?" We're a couple of feet apart. It would've been weird NOT to say something, right? I grabbed a quick picture while waiting for a light. You would see my downhill into the park, but a stupid car got in the way. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4140/...f41295de51.jpg mrz80, well, next time a bus behaves badly around me, I'm reporting it. City of Atlanta has enough problems, they surely don't need to be paying out cyclists lawsuits. |
Yes but not far. Only did 2 miles. My little guy fell asleep 1 mile in. I turned around and took him home to put him in the crib and found out that he no longer wanted to sleep.

Yep, After the rain and before the dark.... Wasn't going to go, I was and am really busy.... But when the temp dropped to 85 after the rain..... I decided I'm going. That and I didn't want to post in my "why I didn't ride" aka "excuse" thread... LOL Rode 16.48 miles... It was a bit cooler but OMG sooo much more muggy. I've noticed the last few rides I really cant get into a rhythm until I have ridden 5 or 6 miles. Its funny because when I started "really" riding again 7 weeks ago at 5 or 6 miles I was starting to get tired. Anyway glad I got out for a ride...
abracapocus .... The other day when I rode the trail I encountered 6 people.... I nodded or waved to everybody...... And not ONE waved or nodded back.... <sigh> Not really time to say anything when passing (going towards each other).... But I usually have a WAY better (wave/nod) average than ZERO.... lol But on the plus side..... when I ride my usual route I get all kinds of people that know me honking or waving. Half the time I can't figure out who it is until they see me next time (not on the bike). It's kind of fun when people that I hardly know say "hey I saw you on your bike the other day". Then they ask how far did you ride... and I tell them.... Then almost always they tell me I'm crazy. Little do they know that there are people on here who ride WAY more than I do.... :P FunkyStickman ... I got about a 1/2 mile from my house and saw a PC case out by the road, so I stopped and called for somebody to come and get it. Is that bad?? They must have put it out after the rain because it wasn't even wet. Haven't really checked it out but it did have a DVD burner, 512mb stick of ram, and an 80gig hard drive, P4 processor of some kind, even had the power supply.. Nothing great but the price was right LOL |

I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August 435 miles ahead of last year at this date Good to see some new people putting up there mileage... |
I rode this morning, my usual 13.5 miles. This makes about 310 miles in the last 8 weeks or so, I think. Not amazing, but definitely logging the miles. I felt very sore on the bike this morning, but as soon as I got to work, I realized I had some spring back in my step... I really do feel better all day when I ride.

va_cyclist .. Nice upgrade.... I was thinking the other day (and today while riding a hilly road for Florida) that if I ever do decide to take a biking trip someplace I'm going to need a compact double or a triple. There is NO way I would be able to handle big hills otherwise. Let me know what you think of the compact double when you have a few miles on it. I have only ever ridden the double on my road bike.
The front shifting is working well. The rear still needs a bit of adjustment, but it's close. I'm looking forward to tackling the Blue Ridge Parkway again this fall. |
No pictures the last few days... today RAIN..... And not really anything interesting to take pictures of on my normal route.
Yep........ WET!!!!!! Started out a bit after 5pm (I think)... It was just drizzling at that time, but the roads were still really wet. So I was getting wet anyway.. DOH!! About 5 miles into the ride (just before I took the glasses off). I ran something over .. I was like "what was that looked like a plastic cup or something". Got another 1/4 mile down the road and realized it was my water bottle. I freeze my bottles and when they thaw they shrink... It shrunk and wiggled out of the holder. I usually loosen the caps every once in awhile or get a drink.... but it was raining... Went back and picked it up. The sky really started to lighten up.... and then IT POURED.... lol... It got lighter and rained harder... I had fun though, good ride.... Ohhhh 24 miles exactly... rode around a bit until my ride picked me up, making it 24.... va_cyclist... Thanks for the info/update. I dunno if its the upgrade or you being in better shape but sounds like your enjoying it so it must be good!!! mrz80... Yep I'll most likely put together a PC and give it to a couple of friends who have a son who just turned 4. They don't have much money and every kid that age needs to be able to use a PC in today's world. I'm thinking if you start school now and don't know how to use a PC your already behind. |
Yes, I did! This week my boyfriend got a 1986 Fuji Allegro off of Craigslist so he could ride with me. So I rode up to his place this morning and we rode all over Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown neighborhood streets. My ride ended up being 10 miles, his around 4. It was his first time out for years so I didn't want to push too hard. The neighborhood was a good place to get comfortable with riding and there were hills for shifting practice. He seemed to like it so hopefully I now have an occasional riding partner.

Good deal, Abracapocus!! It's always more fun to ride with someone. Sadly, all three guys I have lined up to ride with me bailed today... *sniff* I'm not hurt, really... *sniff*
I did a 22 mile loop, and remembered we were out of milk at the house, so I stopped by the corner store and picked up two gallons of milk. I threw them in my new panniers, and headed back home, for 23 miles total. I passed 3 roadies on my loop, one was stopped, and he said he was on his third flat, he was finished, and had called somebody to pick him up. It made me think of all the roadies that ride in this area (tons of them) but none of them are utility/commute riders that I know of. Maybe it was just me wanting to feel smug on my "fat tire" bike (as if 1.5's are fat! Hah) but I was glad I didn't have 23mm tires. |
40 miles this morning and another 6 on the way home, so 46 all day brings my total this week to 230 with an average of 40 miles a day since monday. And to think, I still have another 80+ to go tomorrow from Orange Park down to Keystone and back. Thats always a fun one with as many rollers as we have around here. Keep an eye out if you are in the area, the train pulls out 'bout 0730 and should reach Keystone by 1000.

Yep... I rode sat.... 16.46 miles on the MTN bike. Didn't have a ride to the pavement today and didn't feel like walking the road bike in the mud.... So took off on the mountain bike. I wasn't really feeling "IT" whatever "IT" really is. So just planned a nice easy ride take a few pictures (forgot the camera on the bike so i'll post pics tomorrow... doh). As always once on the bike I pushed it harder than planned and got a good workout and had a nice ride. MUGGY MUGGY MUGGY though... Actually about the same time I spend on the road bike, but a shorter distance.
droobieinop .... I'm getting so I really like that ride from Keystone north on SR21. I like the rolling hills and the nice wide shoulder. I think I rode about 15 miles up sr21 from Keystone & the 15 back last weekend, I'm not sure but I know I turned around before I made it to SR16. It was 40 miles total for me but about 10 miles of that was on the trail that runs along side SR100. I WISH I could ride 80 miles in a day.... But NO chance of that for awhile (if ever). Have fun tomorrow though. |
Today's ride out to Keystone and back 76 miles at an average speed of 21 mph, 20 on the way out and 23 back.
Time:03:39:54 Distance:76.35 mi Elevation Gain:1,079 ft Calories:1,814 C Avg Temperature:87.1 °F |
Yep, Just got back 5 minutes ago... Really really did NOT feel like riding today. I literally sat around for about an hour from 5 to 6pm thinking to myself "should I ride".... I could NOT think of a reason, I mean a real reason not to ride other than "I don't feel like it". Sooo got ready got a ride to the pavement and went for a ride. It was a later start than usual so when it started getting dark my ride came looking for me :D Picked me up about 1.5 miles from the house. Ended up riding 22.38 miles. I always feel better after a ride when I really didn't feel like riding.....
|
Yes! This was just a ride as transportation, about 9 miles total. My goal all along was to start replacing car trips with bike trips. Also it was an easy ride and didn't bother my knees much. I'm starting to see more bikes down in my part of town, some seem to be commuters. It's finally a little cooler here. I never thought I'd get excited about highs merely in the mid 80s. It felt good. Can't wait til fall!

I did 23 miles on my fixed gear today, trying to keep my legs loose after yesterday. |

That can be a daunting road by yourself. Just remember, you have 10 to go when you get to Goldhead.

This morning I rode in to work. It was very...moist out. My round trip will end up being my regular 19ish miles. The knee felt good today. Maybe I just needed to HTFU. There was a dumb woman in some giant SUV that decided she needed to squeeze in the lane with me on Peachtree St. even though she had another lane she could've used to pass. I might've yelled "a$$hole".
Since I haven't been posting pics lately, I stopped for a few today. This is some new art going up at the Krog St. tunnel. Their scaffolding is still there so it's probably not done yet. Glad I got a pic before it was painted over though. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/...91c280ee97.jpg Here's an art installation along the Atlanta Beltline. I love these flowers. My bf says they light up at night. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/...ee61409201.jpg This will give you an idea of how moist it was out. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/...468ce3a2f8.jpg It could rain or even storm this afternoon. So we'll see if it catches me. I have a covering for my bag. I don't care if I get wet. My panniers should be here today or tomorrow. Then I'll be able to grocery shop with the bike. Of course my favorite store is about 9 miles away. |
