Richmond bound

I posted this in the NE forums forgetting about this one. Sorry to spam the group but here it is again:

Hey Folks: I will be at meetings/courses during the last week of July in downtown Richmond. Should I bring a bike? Is the local biking decent. I'll have to check my schedule to decide if I should rent for a day or 2 vs. bringing my own bike. I figure I can ride a couple evenings at least. Where does one rent a bike if I decide to go this route. Any bike maps, local trails, great roads that I should not miss? Any evening group rides? Thanks Charlie

Other than the RABA, you can also check out a couple of clubs that post their rides (Team Natures Path and Spin Mafia). Good roads in and around the city. Better roads outside of the city - west towards Goochland and Powhatan. West Creek Parkway is a local business park that is a six mile loop. Good place to run intervals and not worry about traffic.

Hey Balto! I didn't see this until now. I don't know where to rent bikes. There's very good road riding east of the city towards Varina. Much less traffic and hassle than going west to Powhatan and Goochland. And a great pub on the way back into town (Poe's Pub on Main Street just east of 25th).

There's also pretty good riding in town, although there are no bike paths. The traffic is light, however, and the drivers are generally well-behaved.

PM me if you want more details.

HeyTulip I am getting ready to leave now and wanted to make a couple of notes from others posts. Thanks for you info. I don't know how much computer access I'll have as I am laptop-less. Best Charlie
