Touring the east coast of FLA in OCT: N to S, or S to N?

Hey folks. I have the option of touring from Jacksonville to Fort Lauderdale, or in the reverse direction, early in October of this year. I am wondering if prevailing winds will be a big factor (they certainly are on the Pacific coast, where I live), which would help me decide which direction to choose (I prefer tail winds!)

Thanks for your input!

Assuming you are riding A1A - gorgeous route, BTW - it will be cross-winds all the way, from the ocean in the morning-noon, from land in the evening. Prepare for the tropical showers every afternoon.

Budget a day for St-Augustine, great city, definitely easier to ride around than drive.

NOAA predicted 8 hurricanes this year, be able to change plans on a short notice.

Have fun.

I agree with sci_femme, with the winter months being an exception. When low pressure systems drop through the state, the prevailing easterlies will clock around to the S, W, then will remain N or NE for a few days at around 20-25kts before settling down.

If you were coming later in the year, I'd suggest N --> S, but I don't think it will matter much in Oct and you're probably used to stronger wind anyway...

Thanks for your input, sci_femme & Chris. I will most probably be biking N to S. I love jumping in the water, so I'm just hoping I don't run into tar balls by that time, god forbid.

It won't matter much which way you go then. It's also late enough in the year that, at least some days, no PM shower.
