Alicia Parkway has a wide open bike lane and is normally a safe ride.
My contacts in MV report heavy fog over the weekend.

The main trouble with this ride are the vast, huge intersections.
The accident happened near Via Burgos, with a B-of- A on one corner. Except for the bank this is an uncomplicated crossing, so something like poor visibility and fog may be involved.

The main trouble with that road is that the cars are going 50-70 mph... it doesn't take much of a distraction to have a terrible impact. The car looks like it hit a tree, so he wasn't just weaving a little.

Of course, the driver was reputedly impaired. I do respect him for staying at the scene rather than doing what every other driver in this damn state seems to do and flee.

First of all... my sincere sympathies to any and all that were touched by this tragedy. I was thinking about this a lot on my ride down PCH this morning during rush hour. I kept thinking about what knucklehead might be driving up behind me and not paying attention to the road. Honestly, I'm surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. During the early morning hours there are way too many drivers blowing through stop signs, texting and driving as if they were to miss the next green light their day will be ruined.

I live here. The call came into the sheriff at 8:07 am. I was riding on Trabuco Road a couple miles NW of the scene about 10 minutes after this happened. No fog. Driver allegedly under the influence of drugs.

This kind of accident continues to happen, I lost a good friend and riding partner on January 11 on PCH and Seal Brach Blvd to a distracted driver. We all need to be as careful as we can and the rest is up to the big guy upstairs.
