Nov. 4th Solvang Prelude

It's not like we need another ride to choose from in the next couple months , but I thought I'd mention it. Same group that puts on the famous Solvang Cenutry has a metric century in Solvang on November 4th. I think I'm going to dust off the tandem and get my wife out for this one . I mentioned it to her when the flyer came in the mail, and she thought I was crazy, she's barely done any riding since we had kids 5 year ago. I think I sold her on it though, or maybe it's the idea of a weekend without the kids ? Ayone else thinking of doing this? Normally I wouldn't make the drive for a 65 mile ride, but a weekend away sounds great

This is a great ride with great scenery! I did this ride like 10 years ago, but back then it was only a 50 miler. We got a room in Buellton the night before and rode in to Solvang for the ride. Definitely a great way to spend the weekend...

We did the 50 miler (or maybe the metric? it's hard to remember) about 5 or 6 years ago. We usually stay in Lompoc. Foxen canyon is great, and I think it may have been repaved this year

Does anyone know if there are any profile maps of the routes? On the website they just rate the routes in difficulty but I'd like to see how much climbing there is for each.

Well ... it certainly couldn't get any worse than this year's Solvang century!

My friend just fininshed his first century ride, the Amtrak Century. Now he's got the bug to do more rides. Since the Solvang Prelude flyer was on our windshield after the ride, that's the one he wants to do.

He's a little concerned about doing the metric century, because it is rated as difficult. For those who have ridden these rides, how would you compare the half-century and metric century Solvang Prelude rides with either the Amtrak Century or Rosarito to Ensenada?

I did the 50 mile route 3 years ago. The temperature at the start was literally about 30 degrees and it rained like crazy the night before.

The route was more hilly than I thought it was be. I had just started riding again so I literally signed up with my buddy a week before and rode it. It's probably not as bad as I thought it was because I wasnt in shape. Still, it was a great ride and very scenic!

This was my first organized ride some 15 years ago. We did the "50 miler" which was 58 miles, plus rode 2 miles from an RV park to the start and 2 miles back! Now that I'm riding again, I plan on going up there, maybe with my uncle-in-law. Maybe people on this thread can designate a meeting time/place for the start, maybe even a preferred hotel (Buellton is fine with me).

I usually ride this every year as it's short and sweet and you can wine taste afterwards. If a group assembles, I'll definitely ride it.

I did the 50 mile in March. 40 degrees of rain and hail within 5 minutes of setting off. 65-70 and sunny and the end.

I'll be there, I've ridden it the last 4 years straight. This was the first organized ride I did when I started cycling. I thought it was tough, I actually had to walk up a couple of hills. Now it is a piece of cake and great fun.

I'm sooooo jealous...if only I could have afforded the Madone. I'll be glaring at you the first time I meet you - please don't take it personally. It's just the "green eyed monster" poking his head out!
