So, let me get this straight….Red Bull is putting on a downhill race with some of the top pros in cycling, but you can not attend the race (except at the finish line)…..?
Great idea, but that just blows about not being able to see it. Thought about bringing my cow bell up to the race (just like Olympic Downhill) and giving some support to the riders. I’m guessing that there is really no place for spectators on the road???

We tried to get in last year and they said no way but if things went smoothly they might let spectators in this year, I guess not, though. Saw some videos on-line, those guys were fast. No 'bents, no fairings, but they did allow disc brakes, and Lopes had a one-off bike for the event. Funny thing, Rockwell won it on a regular road bike that he uses daily. I forgot who got the top speed prize, but I think it was about 60 mph on a short straight just before a turn.

Tuna Canyon, sweet, that's right up the hill from me. I can't think of a good place to watch though. Most of it is walls and cliffs. You could probably hike into the woods closer to the bottom.
I used to work with a guy who was rated in one of the 'Drivers clubs'. They ride around the Santa Monica mountains around 5am at crazy speeds. He claims to have hit 100mph going down Tuna Canyon. Nutjob.

Tuna cyn? I love that place, one-way downhill. I rode there a few times when I still had my (motor)bike.
How the hell could you hit 100 on Tuna canyon?

Hitting 100 probably wouldn't be a problem, but getting down to speed to make the corner would be rough :-) I rode in his 'driving' car once. If I cared at all about cars, I'm sure I would've remembered some of the stuff he told me about it. Suffice it to say it was pretty customized. (Think 70's muscle car type thing, not a street racer).

if you look closely next time on tuna, there are a few cars at the bottom of the canyon. That will be their final resting place.
