We did Raptor Ridge yesterday Pico and I started at Telegraph, climbed the Diemer switchbacks to South Ridge, took South Ridge that's one nasty roller section) to San Juan Hill, went down South Ridge and realized we missed the Tarantula Canyon (Bovinian Delight) singletrack, so we climbed back up the east side of South Ridge found our singletrack and made it to 4 corners. From 4 corners we took Raptor Ridge singletrack to the Park HQ. Went down by the golf course via Lower Aliso singletrack/Skully Ridge and Skully Hill, returned via Aliso fireroad. Took Raptor Ridge back to 4 corners and flew down Telegraph. After 37 miles of fun in the dirt, I was cooked Next time I'd like to do the East Perimeter singletrack. Do you know if Gilman Peak and Water Canyon are off limits to bikes?

Bikes: I don't own any bikes

Funny story about water damage... in the photos I posted showing Telegraph back when is my buddy Mike. In the last photo he is crossing a wide stream full of mud. After walking the stream during 4 or 5 rides, he decided to ride through it. He almost made it. He tried to climb out the other side, but the bike flipped and he landed, in the mud, on his back. By the time I got there (and stopped laughing) he was totally, and I mean totally covered head to toe with mud. Didn't think too much about it until we got back to the car. He remembered his cell phone which he placed in the outside pouch to his Camelbak. I couldn't tell it was a cell phone it was so covered in mud (and help me Jeesus it started me giggling again which made Mike mad). Turns out cell phone don't work when covered in mud. He cleaned it up and took it back to Verizon and told them it just stopped working... he didn't know why! Lesson learned, cell phones go inside the Camelbak.

BCIpam: I'd love to buy your bike...but there's two problems: 1. I don't have $1400...I don't really have 1/2 of that. What I do have is a 1995 Cannondale F600 with a rock-solid Alu hardtail frame that I LOVE, but the rest of it just doesn't compare to what's on the trails today. and 2. See #1.

Jsigone: Maybe, if you're up for it, we could ride this weekend (Saturday...not Sunday, 'cause that's the Swapmeet day) at Daley or Hodges, and you can tell me everything that needs replacing. I figure, at minimum, I'm looking at cranks, wheels, rear derailleur, front suspension, headset, headset adaptor, stem, and bars.

Then again, I'm sure there's deals to be had at the Swapmeet.

I'm game for Saturday, either place is fine. Daley would be a better burner for me since I have the SS.
What time can you get out??

I'm sure there are some KILLER deals at the swapmeet. I wish I had extra money to go down there and drool a bit.

I don't know...my bawls haven't dropped back into place from yesterday's ride...Theoretically, it'll be less cold 'cause I won't be hitting 45 mph on the trails like I was at 0dark30...theoretically.

We'll chat about it tomorrow...I'm off to catch my Tivo'd Prison Break. Oh, that silly Michael Scofield and his crazy eyes.

Cali - go online - check "mountain biking in carbon canyon/chino hills" and I think a route map will come up in one of the posts. I know that's how I found the trails on the Chino side of the Park.

It is a huge Park. I have never explored all of the Chino side. I know there is an entrance off the 15 to the Park and someday I'll check it out. I have done all of Telegraph, South and North Ridge plus Sycamore, Bovian and Rapture. The Park is well marked so you shouldn't get lost.

The Rapture photo I'm assuming was taken early spring (like January or February), before the mustard and other weeds overtake the trail and just after the winter rains start to green up the hills. Right now the trail is easy to see, but hills are brown, especially on the Chino side where the mustard has really taken hold. The Carbon Canyon side still has some green.

Here's another view - that's Irvine Lark in the background - looking across to the Santa Ana Mountains...

Go to the official State Park website, they have a good topo map with all of the trails, fireroads, off limits etc.
