Solvang Double

Who's in and what time are you starting?

magicant 03-02-07 11:48 PM

In & as early as possible...gonna pace myself pretty slowly for my first double. If I get done early, I can start my birthday celebration sooner!!

Brandy 03-02-07 11:50 PM

5:00 a.m.??

magicant 03-02-07 11:54 PM

uh, sure, if that's the earliest start time. I'm guessing that's when m.e. is going to want to start too. Don't know about Scootcore, but he's planning on being there, too.

Scootcore 03-03-07 12:35 AM

as early as allowed....

merider1 03-03-07 08:07 AM

I'm in, registered and, yes, I'll be up at 3:30am, fed, dressed, greased-up (sunscreen), lubed (never mind) and ready to roll at 5:00 am. Unlike you, Brandy, it will take me longer than 14 hours. And I won't look as good or smell as good as you did after. As a matter of fact, I'll need to be hosed down if this ride is anything like Butterfield. I just got my bike back from Budget yesterday where they cleaned it and I PAID them (willingly - as in I offered) because of how much work it had to have taken to get the gel, dirt, etc. off my bike that got there during Butterfield!

big john 03-03-07 08:20 AM

I think you guys will enjoy this ride sooo much more than Butterfield. Of course, I haven't done it, but 12 of my friends did 2 years back and all of them finished under 12 1/2 hours, nobody needed lights.

Scootcore 03-03-07 11:01 AM

ill be taking lights....

You need to come do a double. Really. :D

+1 - it will take me at least 15 hours. I know my skills and my bladder and, well, my need for breaks! :D

Brandy 03-03-07 09:59 PM

I think I'm going to start out early. Vireo is trying to tell me to just start at 7:30 with him (he wants his time recorded) but there's no way I'm going to finish in under 12 hours...uh uh...just not happening. So, repeat of Butterfield...I'll go out early (not sure what time though) and he'll just have to catch me and then I get to suck wheel the rest of the day. :D

dauphin 03-03-07 10:00 PM

checking my calendar....I've been there before...

DanteB 03-04-07 01:04 AM

I'll be there and I'm starting early. I don't mind carrying the lights they don't weigh that much. Is everyone checking in Friday night?

My apologies, as I had yet to answer you back. Joel, Bill and I are riding Dante, starting at 5am, and I am carrying lights as well. I'm going to be there Friday night for sure. Maybe we can all meet for dinner? :)

Well, B, you're welcome to start with me again and then drop me like a badly microwaved potato. I've gotten use to it. Just call me "sour cream spud" as you speed away. Actually, that's kind of naughty sounding, so be sure to smack me on the butt too, as you take off. :p Oh, I'm glad you worked it out so that you can do this one. I hear it's really a good ride. :D

Oleanshoebox 03-04-07 09:14 AM

maybe next year. not quite up for a double just yet, but it makes a nice goal. maybe I'll beg my wife, request the days off and register all early-ish for next year. I do love wine...

No problem, I think I'm getting there around 3-3:30 on Friday. Dinner sounds great, keep me informed.

I'm glad that I worked it out as well, I'm looking forward to it. :) I'm not sure that I'll want to start as early as 5:00...we'll have to see. We'll only have one car and I'm not sure how far from the start we'll be staying.

Edited...looks like we'll be about 20 minutes away.

DanteB 03-04-07 03:04 PM

Sunrise is going to be at 6:49am with civil twilight at 6:24am. Sunset is 7:19pm with twilight being 7:45pm. We'll have an also full moon rising at 5:50pm. Is this any help with starting times?

Well all the zinc sort of makes it look like you're wearing sunglasses :p

... I wear the zinc so that when I'm 60 I'll look no older than 50. Of course, by the time I'm 60, cosmetic surgery will be so advanced, I will be able to even look 30 if I want, but just to be on the safe side, I'm protecting my skin. I burn very easily.
