Ridden in Hawaii?

Well, at work I was given a choice of either having a roadtrip out to West Virginia, or Hawaii next week. Tough call. I dont know how much free time I will have during four day stay in Honolulu but if I could, I would like to maybe rent a bike and venture out a bit. This is my first time on the island and I would appreciate any help on finding a good route. I probably will be staying in Waikiki area. Thanks a bunch.

I've ridden on the Big Island, and my SO has ridden on Maui-- it's great. I've both brought my own bike and rented decent bikes on the Big Island. She rented on Maui. I think we both found the bikes through web searches-- the best thing is to find them in advance and make a reservation so you get one the right size. I think it was about $120 for a week.

Waikiki and Honolulu are massively congested, first time in Hawaii- I envy you.

The last thing on your mind will be cycling. Snorkeling, surfing rule there.

Send a PM to Sprocket Man. He lives in Honolulu and knows where to rent bikes as well as some good routes that aren't far from Waikiki.

How many miles you planning to go? If you want to ride a nice hill, try Tantalus. If you want something relatively flat, go east out of Waikiki, around Diamond Head, through Kahala, down Kalanianaole. If you go all the way to Lunalilo Home Road and back to Waikiki, it's about 20 miles or so. If you want to go farther, go to Waimanalo before you return.

If you are available on Saturday afternoons or early Sunday and would like to go on a ride, drop me a PM. Enjoy your stay - the weather's been really nice lately.

Thanks guys and thanks for the tip Sprocket Man.

I' ll be flying in on Monday and leaving on Thursday. I dont know how much free time I will have, especially during the day. I will have to see what my schedule is like once I get there. Hopefully I'll get some riding done but if not I'll have my Speedos ready!

If you want to do a workout-type swim...they have a cool swim course at Ala Moana Park. You can swim 2K with only one turnaround. Or you can just play around in Waikiki.

"Diamond Head Lighthouse Beach is a traditional sunning spot for gays, and was named in the HONOLULU WEEKLY'S annual "Best Of Honolulu" issue as "BEST NUDE BEACH". But keep in mind that nudity is "officially" illegal in Hawaii."

Sweet!

Not Really.
