Am I the only one daring to be different?
Anyone else not riding in the main group and doing the frontside of GMR???

pmc 08-24-07 06:50 PM

I'm out. Something about a "miss communication" or maybe it was a failure to communicate. Any way a party was planned for 1pm.

Could I be back before then? I could go up the 39, east fork and down GRM. How long would that take? Remember I can't be late. So that means I can't just be walking in the door at 1pm.

I think you could do that distance in less than 3 hours.

If i end up making it, i'll be going up the front of GMR too. My road bike is in dire need of a cleaning though... It's been through the 200-miles-between-cleaning interval and i haven't riden it for a month since i got the fixie.

If i can get it cleaned (or at least get the chain and rear derailuer cleaned and lubed) i'll try to make it hopefully with a friend.

It's either climb GMR or go watch Crash over at the Ontario Criterium (which happens to be afew miles from me)...

I just noticed that I was listed as making fictitious plans so that I can't attend. Hopefully, I'll be in the results tomorrow so that I can prove to Asia that I was elsewhere. If not and I just end up going down there and riding around in circles, jpconrad is supposed to be there so maybe he'll be my witness that I actually raced.

It's kind of like getting a note from my mom.

Only this is up Hwy39 and I'm not sure if the main group is going up 39 or Sierre Madre.

EDIT: MAIN GROUP IS GOING UP HWY 39 SO ROUTE SLIP SHOULD WORK FINE.

Thanks M.E.,

Have printed, will bring!

Now I won't get lost . . . or at least I have no excuse if I do!

Anybody know how far Encanto Park is from downtown LA?

Maybe 25 - 30 miles

Actually...probably not even that far

magicant 08-25-07 08:13 PM

If you take the 10 to the 605, it's about 20 miles.

I rode from home in altadena (about 20 miles) up GMR to the intersection down to east fork, down 39 and home in about 4:20 today. Just from Encanto back to Encanto should be doable in less than 3 hours, depending on how hard you ride. It was kind of windy on east fork and 39, but otherwise not bad. Warmer up on GMR and in back on EF/39 than down in the SGV. It was clear behind the mountains so it was hot, but a little haze was keeping it cool in town.

GP 08-25-07 08:25 PM

After consulting my '01 Rand McNally road atlas, I have concluded the LA freeway system is too confusing for me and I should just come straight home.

Wow, who'd have guessed this is tomorrow's forecast at Baldy?

"Scattered thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. High 87F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40%. "

Definitely a possibility of a cooling rain.

I actually got hit by a few drops of water near the bottom of 39 today. It was very weird-- it felt sort of like impending rain and there were a few drops coming out of the high mist, but nothing that could have made real rain.

It late to add me to the list... but after today lovely dinner with buch of BFers that going to be there, and the fairly flat 50 miles today, I am in.

See you @ 8:00.

I just got done with my route, the thunder storm is RIGHT over Escondido right now, there was 6 car crashes in 3 exits. THe cops closed off the 15 right at the 78 because there was alot of cars that got piles up. I took the back home....Debating if I want to load up the bike and drive in this weather up there.......

I saw you heading up Hwy 39 as I was coming down in my car - sorry didn't get a chance to stop and say hi. Hope you had a good ride!

Shprung 08-26-07 05:08 PM

Luwin1026, Thanks so much for the cookies, drinks, and overall excellent SAG support.

efficiency 08-26-07 08:17 PM

I just got home. Will add pics and stuff later. I'd just like to thank:

1) Asia the Organizer
2) SAG People
3) Shai riding and giving encouragement up to the Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts (even though he said there was no joy in riding up that route)
4) Everyone else just for being there!
