Edit: What route planning sites actually do the Toporoute thing of following roads, so you don't have to click 487 times to hit every single curve in the road...that don't crash Macs?

urodacus 08-07-07 10:20 AM

Mac, of course. when i need to run some code that MS has perverted the standard version of in order to piss off Mac users, i cross boot windoze.

I like my mac as i can run full on Unix protein modelling software in realtime on my iBook. can you do that on your Lenovo?

games, well, i use a Wii or a PS2. or ride my bike.

Not sure about it's Mac crashing capabilities, but Bike Route Toaster also has the follow roads option
Bike Route Toaster: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/

However, toporoute is really the best for ease of use for those of you that can actually use it.

Linux. Current preferred flavor: Debian. Uses for the computer: email, Internet. My eight year old cobbled together clunker would make most cringe, but it's a screamin' demon with my exactly-what-you-need-and-nothing-more OS and window manager. Ahh, the simple life.

It's probably the browser. I use Firefox, and no problems with the toporoute link, or bikely.com or routeslip.com. I did try with Safari, but it did not crash the box. It just took up most of the CPU. Just kill the process using top, and you'll be ok.

For you Mac shlubs...I bikely'ed it

I like Vista more than XP. All the eye candies!!! And my games still works! :D

I haven't really used a Mac in a long time, but the slow mouse click'idy response time in Apple store demos are quite annoying to me.

Vista is not compatible with anything. A friend of mine had to use some software specific to auto sales. When he bought a new PC, it came with Vista, and software didn't work. He had to find a used PC, that still had XP, and it finally worked.

Crap. I voted Mac, when I meant to vote PC. Subtract one from Mac, Joy.

UmneyDurak 08-07-07 12:21 PM

Couple of PCs running XP Pro, laptop dual booting XP Pro and Linux. Mac laptop running Linux in VMWare.

VMware is his friend. ;)

Didn't crash mine.

I use both. Primarily mac, but PC for various stuff, too. I've been spending a lot of time in the terminal window and using text editors on the mac lately, and like the UNIX stuff that's in there, plus the minimal amount of maintenance it takes for doing normal day to day things. And that when I take advantage of a lot of the unix features it doesn't break the GUI apps.

My brain says Mac, but my bank account always says PC. Bank account usually wins....

Linux PC (Fedora Core) plus XP Pro laptop for work. A couple of XP machines at home.

I know exactly what you mean as I only buy IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad laptops. :D

Shprung 08-07-07 03:51 PM

Using PCs, Mac, and few Unix boxes (mostly Solaris, and Linux)
When it comes to web developement and surfing I recomand PC. I can say that I am using PCs 80% of the time but 30% of that is in ssh terminal to a unix box. On the Mac for specific programs (like Final cut) and testing to see if it actuall works on it.
The pool shows, and any stats with large sample will, PC are by-far out number Macs.

All that wasted space at the bottom of the screen. I really hate that. The cabling is nice, but I don't see any more cables on my home setup.

tblendell 08-07-07 05:05 PM

mac, which is terrific, unless i want to get full usage from my garmin or polar...
