I got invited to the woman's forum some time back... honestly I never post there and seldom go there at all. It's rather boring. Nothing you men should worry about at all. If you want to read a women's forum go to teamestrogen.com. That'll give you a real sense about what women post about. Mostly bike stuff, just like here.

You have to admit if guys want to read risque posts, they are already in the right place. Women on their own tend to be fairly serious and not as playful. OK, especially at TE, there are some lesbian romances going on, but nothing us "regular" women care to note.

PAM! You do realize that you should have never said that. You're going to see a whole lot of "new members" pop up now.

You mean guys trying to post on TE? Let them try. Those women are combative!!!! Although there is the one honorary guy that is allowed to post. I frankly could care less but I believe no guy will find the place interesting. I barely find it fun.

I agree with you, Pam. And mind you, I love women. But I also love men and I find that the men tolerate my brand of humor better. I'm almost always joking and I've prickled the sensitivity of women far more than the men (that or the men just won't tell me when I've crossed the line into embarrassment and women will). Regardless, I like my company mixed. With that said, though, I'd love for more women to join over here in this forum for sure.

Actually I believe lots of men post there - I have several friends who do from time to time but it's not a place to be playful or flirty... serious responses only. Those women would nail you otherwise. Am I not correct?

BTW I love the TE ladies - they got me through some hard times and I have made some wonderful friends after riding with some of the TE ladies. And I still go there and lurk, posting occasionally. I think I do more through PM then online so as not to ruffle some feathers (like for instance mention praying for someone's health - all the earth goddesses get mad!).

Sigh. This is why I stay out of there (they'd hiss at me anyway after I cracked the first lesbian joke). But yes, Pam, many of the women over there are nice and very supportive. It's just not my scene.

I have to admit I am between a rock and a hard place... TE and other women's forums get too combative and weird for me (and boring) but I don't always feel comfortable here as well (it's alittle too lively, playful and bawdy for me).

What I am really looking for is a forum for old women who like to play hard like guys and talk about guy stuff (but not in a flirty, sexually innuedo way more like what lube do you use on your chain and why? way and which show is better Simpsons or South Park - that sort of thing), is not interested in discussing things like shopping (don't even ask me about shoe brands - I know nothing! but bike brands - that's a different story!), or spa treatments or nail salons, who's been there and done that and is no longer interested in trying to be the wickerest rider out there (listen when I say I am slow up hills - I ain't sandbagging.... I'm slow!). I'm no longer too serious about life and care not to associated with anyone who is. I just want to take life easy, not be serious, laugh and have fun; enjoy what good friends I have and not take my sometimes good health for granted.

Is there a forum out there for me???

You just need to start a thread. After 5 posts when the thread goes to the gutter, start a new thread!

Pam, first off, you are not old and I hope to be riding like you do when I'm as "young" as you are. Give yourself some credit, woman! And might I suggest that YOU create the forum you are seeking. If it doesn't already exist, ask the Mods if they will create a subforum in the Women's forum and name it what you'd like. I bet there are more women seeking what you are seeking and will join in on conversations. Ask for one over on TE as well. It may take time to get like-minded women posting, but eventually you will.

Geez Dave... does it even make it 5 posts before hitting the gutter!

I know I am the minority - majority rules and in the women's forum the majority are earth godesses and in this forum it's younger, more playful folks.

Guess I'll go back to the 50+ forum and see what's happening there today. Maybe someone will be discusiing the merits of bran flakes or Metamucil before a ride!

Edited to add: Went to 50 + and they are discussing colonscopies! My people! Yeah... :-(

I'd say more like two posts (yes, I know, I'm one of the biggest culprits). I still implore you to start your own forum. You may be surprised to find others who want the same type of exchange you do. As for the merit of bran and meamucil before a ride...um...I don't think there is any.

So if the women's forum really is an un-exciting discussion about mostly bike stuff, what prompted it's existence?

Some/many women in the BikeForums general populace weren't fond of the overly testosterone-ridden, often times boorish areas like Road Cycling, so the Women's Forum was created to give female cyclists a safe place to congregate. I have yet to behold this frontier.

It wasn't just the male issue, but many women (and I include myself at times) get affended by the how do I say this... ummm, sex talk, innuedoes, that stuff (which can be started by women also but usually in response to men) and wanted a haven to just chat in peace (at least that's how teamestrogen.com is set up). Also there are issues that affect women only and women wanted a place to have those discussions without guys adding their 2 cents (which usually meant a sexual comment or 10).

Like I said teamestrogen.com is a good example of what the women's forum here is all about. Those women can be just as serious about cycling, bicycles, mechanics etc as men. Amazingly so. And they can be just as feisty at times. But there is a certain level of civility that sometimes a open forum does not have.
