Ice cream isn't my thing. I'd rather have 800 calories in a margarita than a bowl of ice cream. Or a Yummy's cupcake. Those are evil sugar/fat bombs and I have to steer clear of that place.

I rode with the SDBC B ride today, and got dropped again... twice!

Both times were in a double paceline. My paceline skills are not very smooth and I had to keep accelerating and decelerating (as smoothly as I can) to keep up. I wasn't able to maintain it and had to drop off (San Diegieto and La Costa).

On the bright side, I discovered my heart can beat 203 bpm; 2 bpm higher than my current PR!

Nothing like 50+ miles to cheer a person up. Rode from my doorstep to the Rose Bowl (and canyons) and back with Herb and Mark. Glorious day albeit brrrrrrrr out there! My legs are so cold right now! Saw Joel out in his car...poor sicky. Get better, Magicant!

Great ride!!!

EDIT: Oh, and I got to meet Herb's lovely wife, Ellen.

Seems high to me too.... but Monday night MadMike and I discussed putting together a list of rules for riding with me..

number one on the list is
"Do not ask Phil about his current heart rate"

I guess I have a low heart rate when riding, cause I have never seen it get above 175... even when I am climbing or puling the paceline. My average for the entire Butterfield ride was 127, Mulholland was 131, and Breathless Agony was 138...

It seems higher than normal, but not out of the range. I can get into the 190s (highest I've recorded was 198) My climbing pace is around 170-174bpm.
My resting HR is between 50-60. It was 47 when I used to run a lot.

It's ok really. In the extremely rare moment that I gain some extra fat, it's usually the ice cream. Maybe I shouldn't eat so much. But it's like crack to me. Serious. It's my superhero weakness.

Started with the SDBC D2 ride today (it used to be C++ but someone got bored and changed the naming system). At La Costa four of us decided to extend the ride by heading north to Oceanside Harbor for a total of 70 miles. Absolutely beautiful day. Two of the four were young women training for their first century (Solvang) on March 8th so I got to play old wizened Century veteran and offer all sorts of bad advice. It was great fun.

Now if it would only not rain tomorrow....

I stopped at the downtown Carlsbad Starbucks this afternoon and the guy gave me free coffee. He obviously heard of the PAM challenge and wanted me to get some training time in.

Ah! I missed an opportunity! Didn't see you at Java Depot today though. I thought I was late, so I rode out from Nobel & Regents instead of UCC. Played catch-up until Genesee when I bump into a few people. It was then I knew I was early and so waited a few minutes for the B group to arrive.

Yeah, let's hope it doesn't rain tomorrow!

I'm beautiful now.

Okay..."beautiful" is pushing it. But I don't look like Cousin It anymore. My hair is trimmed and fluffy. I'm like a groomed poodle. I even have that groomed poodle smell.

You're just a freak of nature, Phil. It's all genetics as to how high our hearts go. Mine rarely goes above 180 too.

Is that like a boot camp ride or a race?

Nah...it doesn't look that good. Besides, you won't get the sense of the poodle smell in a pic.
