Someplace to ride near the ocean
I'm thinking about throwing the bike onto the subie's roof, and heading west. Maybe Santa Barbara? A sort of sunday itch. Anybody have suggestions? Hills/Mountains are good, and I've been working in oceanside, so seeing the ocean would be cool.

I would avoid PCH at all costs. Some people like it, but I can't stand it. Pick any of the canyon roads that lead up into the Santa Monica Mts and enjoy the amazing ocean views from there. Best riding there is. Check out Magicant's "Mulholland Ride" thread for possible variations.

I'd recommend taking the 10 west all the way to the ocean. Keep going until it ends, then turns North onto PCH. 10 or so miles up is Malibu. Park there, and head up the coast. No need to go all the way to SB.
Perhaps take in some of the Mulholland ride described here: https://www.bikeforums.net/southern-california/383972-mulholland-ride-feb-16th.html
Latigo Cyn. is only about 2-3 miles up the coast from Malibu Cyn Rd., then just mess around in the mountains.
Or, just keep going up PCH- easy rollers, right along the water's edge for the most part. Head into Camarillo, then turn around at some point and head back. Easy to get 60-80 miles without much effort.
Enjoy!

If you're intent on going further north, there's a Ventura-Ojai-Santa Barbara triangle loop we do a couple times per year. It's fun and scenic... although again, I'm not crazy about the coastal route back down to Ventura from SB (boring).
