Trip to LA next week.

My wife and I are coming to the LA area next week. While the rest of the group goes to Disney we would like to out for a ride. Any recommendation on a place to rent a couple of road bikes? Also any routes would be great. We are from Houston, TX(no hills). We would like to do about a three to four hour ride, some hills are good, but no massive climbs. Thanks for you help.

Bikes: I don't own any bikes

Boy picked a bad week to visit... major wildfires in the area have affected air quality. it's extremely poor right now and temperatures are very high. The only recommendation I can give you is stay near the beach cities, preferably Orange County or San Diego. If just looking for cruiser bikes, many sea shacks in Huntington Beach rent them. If you are looking for nice road bikes, check out Laguna Cyclery. Mountain Bikes, The Path in Tustin. If you rent from Laguna, the shop guys can give you route information. You can also go to bikeirvine.org and check out the listed route slips. Again something with Pacific Coast Highway in it is best.

The fires are a concern for us. We will not ride if the air quality is poor.

If you want to go farther west to Santa Monica, there's a place called Blazing Saddles on the Santa Monica Pier that rents what looks to be decent equipment. The pier is on the beach bike path, which runs about 18 miles south and 3 miles north. Minimal hills, cool breezes. Just keep in mind that if you go south first, you will most likely have a headwind component coming back north. For a longer ride you can go inland along Ballona Creek for about 5 miles from Marina del Rey.
