Race, victory? Is Solvang a timed event or just a race amongst friends?

It's a joke.

The goal is just to do it as fast as possible, for pride.

All the locals go out and beat each other up for 100 miles. It's not really any different than many of our rides except that there are thousands of other riders on the road too.

Oh darn didn't notice the edit.

But did the dude really ride for T-Mobile at one time? I know lots of pros , ex-pros, olympians do the Tucson ride.

There's no such word as "friend" in cycle racing, Marigold.

Yes, he rode for T-Mobile in the Giro and the Tour of CA. More recently on Bissell, currently between teams. His girlfriend Kim was also on T-Mobile, currently on Columbia (same team).

In the "race report", Matt and Ben (The Hammer) are also ex-pros.

If it wasn't windy I think they definitely could have done it in under 4 hours. Aaron probably could have anyway if he wasn't riding with the rest of us. I might have held on for longer without the crosswinds but they still would have dropped me at some point, I'm sure.

Ok so umd has just put me in place. Lucky for me I did not post my thoughts ofter my ride.

SO this is my 2nd time riding the Solvang Century. Last year I joined up with a local team and we passed a bunch of riders.
This year I started at just after 7am and there were no fast groups to join.
Ended up riding with 2 other riders but I was by far the strongest.
I only stopped at feed station 2 and 4. With the early start, the last 40 min of the ride I was by myself with no one in front of me.
My claim to fame is I pretty sure I am the 1st person to finish the 2010 100 mile Solvang Century.
Next year I now to start later and wait for the fast groups.
I got into the finish at around 12:30pm

I finished at 12:31, but I didn't actually go to the finish, just to where I was parked a few streets over.

The front guys from my group finished at 12:18.

I guess I better return the trophy then
I must say it was weird riding the last part after the final feed station with no one in sight.
Did you guys not stop at feed station #4? Would not have been able to keep up anyway.

You can keep the trophy. You were probably the first finisher amongst registered riders. umd's group wasn't registered and didn't use any of the aid. Since we live in the area, it's like a local ride.
