^ I saw that, there is also a park George Manooshian just east of that school.
|
what about the back abby, but they dont sell pizza.
|
^ I think if you're not already there before the race, good luck getting in? I know some people will leave but I think most will loiter. What do people think?
|
Anybody?
Looks like I'll be going with the wife. |
I'm staying at the Buckhorn Lodge, just up the hill from Baldy Village. Room 5 if anyone wants to watch the Tour on TV. Will start walking up the hill when they start to approach. I'll be wearing my usual La Vie Claire colors, then rolling down the hill afterward for pizza. See you there! http://forums.youthrights.org/images/smilies/rockon.gif

Hey, looking for some advice. It looks like I wouldn't be able to make it up there much before 11 - 11:30. Does anybody have suggestions on where I may be able to get some action in? (preferably on a climb) I'll have the g/f and won't be able to ride up anywhere. If I go that late, am I SOL and forced to watch it on the big screens in Claremont?
|
^ I would think the roads w/b closed by that time.

I'll be in the Incycle booth up at the village tomorrow... stop by and say hi!
|
We are riding up GMR this morning, starting at the Stater Bro parking lot, at the corner of Lone Hill and Route 66. We plan on leaving around 9. There will be lots of car and bike traffic so this should be interesting..
|
The spectator advisory I have seems to list GMR closed no later than 1pm. I was planning on riding up it from 11a--12p. Bad idea?

Just got back. 54 mins from the dam at bottom to "shack" at top, John. Or, 1:01 from our car (corner of E Palm & GMR) to the GMR/GRR intersection. :p :thumb:

Strangest moment today had to be at the intersection of East Fork and GRR, where a lawman was telling cyclists they had to walk from that point forward if they were heading up GRR. This was an hour before the race even began down the mountain! There was a collective disbelief on everyone's faces, but walk we did, until around a corner some 200 meters later, then click-click went all the cleats. Who the hell told that bozo the roads were closed to cyclists!? I hope to God it wasn't some Amgen bureaucrat who called that idiot move.
Aside from that, the day was perfect. No mechanicals, and I met some BF folks I haven't met before - Jimmy and Chris from San Diego county. Pics to follow. |
My pics some vids from the start and the sprint here

Pics to follow. http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/w...a/DSCN3442.jpg I believe they were doing it for your safety as official vehicles were surveying the route (pre-race). As you mentioned, regardless what the CHP was saying, everybody was riding up the hill anyways. |
I was able to take the family to the start in Claremont. That was pretty cool. THey did three laps of that area so we were able to see them go by three times. I had never seen live pro's and was amazed how fast they took off. I would have thought they would be taking it easy warming up a little, but my wife said it was like a "wind" going by. We then drove up to Azusa where we were able to find a nice spot on top of a hill on Sierra Madre. Wife thinks I"m sick, but I picked up a water bottle one of the cyclists threw.
