Daughter had a car and she lived off campus, but very close. She just parked it all week and used it on the weekends. She walked to classes. Parking is very hard to find. She really did not want to ride a bike, but she said many people used bikes.

I'll be here until thursday morning. Wouldn't mind a bike, but I'm unsure of how much I'll need one.

my only 2 cents is basically to get 2 u locks (or at least get a cable. you want to secure the front wheel + frame to a bike rack or post. you also want another u lock or cable to secure the back wheel.

if you have a quick release saddle, carry that with you. if you don't make sure it has tight screws. thieves will steal even crappy saddles and it's a PITA to ride home with no saddle (i have used an empty water bottle in emergency situations).

costco also has cheap bikes for around $100 sometimes.

If you're living in Rieber you'll probably find that you don't need a bike. The way the campus is set up, it's easier to walk past Drake Stadium, the IM field, Wooden Center, etc on Bruin Walk than ride around on Circle Drive. Besides there are hundreds of coeds living in your dorm who might enjoy some company on their walks to and from class.
