I just hope that subpoenaing cellphone records is become part of the SOP for these traffic investigators. I see way too many close-calls with texting drivers.

Maybe we need a "Mothers Against Hit and Run" lobby
MAHR doesn't roll off the tongue though.

As of now, DUI drivers caught up in an accident have every incentive to run, and then surrender when sober.

To continue this in a different direction, there is a new law in effect or going to be in effect? It requires a motorist to give a cyclist 3' from handle bar to mirror when passing. I have noticed that many of my friends and even my wife that I speak to about this do not like this law. Some riders who do the rose bowl in the evenings are even against this. Has anyone else run into this?

^what don't they like about the new law? It is a really flexible law, in that if it is not possible to give the required three feet buffer, then the motorist should slow down until the cyclist pass. I like the new law, as I have had idiots drive really close to me on PCH. Some, purposefully to intimidate and scare me!

In short, it blocks traffic on busy streets (so says one), but we try to stay off busy streets anyway. And we shouldn't be on the road anyway (so says my wife ). They also say it is not police able and is only created to generate revenue. It doesn't address the real issue of our safety but is just a piece legislature. The real issue is our safety. My cyclists like the idea, I think some people just don't like us is their way!
