Helpful inventions

I have always struggled with pulling the tandem out of the van holding the bike with one hand while grabbing the front wheel and getting it mounted on the forks. We recently acquired a new tandem with disc brakes and I am finding it even harder to mount the front wheel while holding the bike because of the tighter clearances encountered with a disc brake.

Since necessity is the mother of invention, I put this thing together from scrap plywood I had in the shop. The outboard cups of the front bottom bracket sit in the semi circles. This holds the bike vertical and stable with the front wheel off the ground. Now I can handle the bike with 2 hands until it is placed on this third hand stand, and I can use 2 hands to mount (and remove) the front wheel.

I'm new to this forum so at the risk of getting the "this has been discussed many times before" response, what contraptions have you fashioned to make things easier?

You could have done a search for 'holding a tandem with one hand while installing the front wheel with the other' and got.................nothing.
Nicely done!

Or you could have done a search for "scorpion bike stand" and found something that might work too?

Awesome idea! I might duplicate that at some point. My DIY bike repair stand can't hold our tandem. Work on the rear is possible thanks to the tandem bike floor stand, but no work in the front possible. Our discs need adjusting and doing this without proper lifting always is a hassle.
