Here's an update with pictures of our gravel tandem "in the wild". Now configured for bike-packing with 7 bottles (for routes with water harvesting I prefer bottles over bladders and also for getting bike over fences I can unload all the water so I can lift the bike!). Up to the max capacity of the frame and fork at 2.1 rear, 2.25 front tires. These pictures are mostly from our 750 mile GDMBR (as in Tour Divide Route) crossing Colorado (green on our heat map picture)

Awesome pics and bike. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to see the evolution of this machine.

That stoker stem/top tube bag is an excellent use of the space. I'm curious about the stoker frame bag, though -- what made you choose to only fill the top half of the available space?

The frame bag is two parts. For tour divide-Colorado we managed to stay at accommodations each night so we did not have the lower "camping" bag. But did have a full-stuffed handle bar bag. We carried a 2-person bothy bag emergency shelter. Here is a picture of the full lower bag on another trip (with a smaller handle bar bag and smaller seat bag than we now have)
The tiered bag allows us flexibility to have "race" bags for bladders and clothing on long single day events such as Dirty Kanza.

Turbotandem, where did you get the big frame bag? Or the combo of two bags. Or did you make it? Does it use frame mounts or velcro/webbing straps?

Hi Andy,

Have you thought about lowering the waterbottle cage by a couple inches on the rear of your captain seat tube? Shimano has an offset bracket ("Shimano Di2 SM-BA01 Bottle Cage Adaptor") but it only moves the cage around an inch max. Easy to make your own from a piece of AL strip for a couple cents. Dropping that cage down toward the bottom tube would make it a lot more usable when the bags are above it. Just an idea.

Bags are bolt-on by Jpak, local to me in Colorado. Just a few pieces of Velcro. Bolts are using some water bottles plus extra we coordinated between frame builder and Jpak.

Originally I had a small tool tube in hat position, but prior to tour divide made a bracket to lower the cage. In the shop picture the down tube is already lowered, and in the picture at the cabin you can see a full size bottle on the back of the seat tube: 19748498_10209095950541582_1610423712961813413_n.jpg19756453_10209073129251064_1368510901398531576_n.jpg
