There is a used daVinci In2ition at a very good price on the Tandem Club of America classifieds. It may be just what you are looking for except the color and distance. Can you do green? It's also about a 10 hour drive, but it would save you over $2000 compared to a new one.

I do have friends in Louisville and if you are that interested, I could see if they could take a look at it before you make the drive up there.
Here's the link.

Thanks so much for posting about the da Vinci In2ition for sale and thanks especially for your kind offer about asking someone to check it out. It looks like someone can get a really good deal on that one, which is advertised essentially as unused. But, the seller believes it to be a large/small. Alas, we are borderline small to medium, and will probably go with a small if we buy a da Vinci. So, that one won't work for us (even if I could get stoker approval for green). I am getting some interest in a da Vinci dealer swapping out the bars and shifters and wheels on a Grand Junction. So, I am still thinking about that.

Good news, bad news. I contacted the seller of the like new da Vinci In2ition. He gave me the serial number and I called da Vinci to check it out. The good news for us is that it appears to be (not 100% sure) a small. The bad news is that it is 10 years old or older, meaning it has older technology, heavier, etc.

I want to thank each of you who took the time to post a suggestion. All suggestions were good and helpful. We decided that the best fit for us is a new red da Vinci Grand Junction. Marcia and Ric at House of Tandems near Houston dropped one off to us and fitted it for us during their trip to New Orleans. Marcia and Ric are GREAT!!! They answered all of our questions and helped us pick components. We replaced the 26 x 1.25 tires with 26 x 1.95 (due to our potholes), but kept the 26 x 1.25 (which fit on the same rims) for when we ride on smooth paths. We replaced the drop handlebars with 3" inch rise bars in front and 5" rise bars in back. We installed a Thudbuster suspension post in the back and a 2-piece kickstand that raises the rear wheel. We kept the narrow seats and will see if we adjust to them. We are used to comfort seats. We ordered a Topeak Supertourist DX Tubular Rack and, of course, a bell. We have had 2 rides so far. Woohoo!
