Hello from a fellow Bloomingtonian. We rode singles for 30 years before taking the tandem plunge. When we did our test rides two years ago they were not what I had expected. I was the one who really wanted the tandem and the first ride down the road behind Matthews (Indianapolis) was not particularly pleasant. The tandem felt much like a wobbly flexible noodle. We rode three different tandems that afternoon. Although it hadn't met my expectations, what was more important is that it surpassed my wife's expectations and she was willing to take the plunge.

It didn't take long for the flexible noodle feeling to leave and be replaced by a confident firm feeling as our bodies learned to not move and inadvertently shift our weight which generated the unstable twitchy feelings. We had agreed that we would continue to ride our singles at least half of the time but within 6 months of getting the tandem in January of 2006 we do most of our miles on the tandem. Much to my wife's surprise it is her preferred way to ride. We've put about 8000 plus miles on the tandem and about 1000 miles on our singles since then.

The tandem feels solid and fast on the roads and hills of Monroe County. The first time we did the downill S-curves on 45 between Lanham Ridge and South Shore was awesome....I could go on and on. We love the tandem. We have friends who recently got a Cannondale tandem from Bikesmiths and they really enjoy it.
