Because nagging from the front position is MUCH more difficult.

Because if the male was the stoker he would have a hard time keeping his hands on the bars....

I am a 5'8" female captain. My 6'2 male stoker weighs 85 pounds more than me, but we are very happy with our set-up. Happy riding!
