Does anyone know anything about Chiocc aluminium tandems?

I was looking at a possible cycling vacation near Mont Ventoux, France.

The bike shop in Malaucene, base of one of the routes up Ventoux, has many lovely bikes to rent, including the one in the title. It comes in a very striking white over blue (and I'm very keen on that combination!) and is called 'In Due'

I'll certainly give it a go if/when I book the vacation -

but I wasn't previously aware of that make. Any views/experience here?

Many thanks

Ciocc does show tandems on their website, but no specifications other than frame geometry.

I believe there is the old Ciocc and the new Ciocc, a classic Italian moniker that has been brought back to life by new owners. Similar to Specialized, I believe many of these new old Italian firms are design/marketing houses who outsource all but one or two primer-level frames that are made in Italy.

Ciocc seems to offer a $3,600 aluminum-framed model and a $5,600 carbon-framed model. In looking at the frame geometry tables, the tandems with the small stoker compartments (M/S, L/S, X/S) have REALLY small stoker compartments... I mean REALLY small. The X/M is about 28" in back and the XX/L is 29" in back. So, to the credit of Ciocc, they appear to offer these frames in a range of sizes so perhaps they are a bit more 'made to order' than the one-size-fits-all Pinarello tandem was.

Thanks

(And as soon as I hit 'send' I was aware of the mis-spelling of the manufacturer's name. Oops. It happens . To me more than the norm!)

I was all set to have a bike trip in UK this summer, and possibly bring back a Cannondale RT2. Then this one cropped onto my radar.

I'm a bit soft on white over blue, Italian, and a not mainstream name.

I rather feel that I'll be a very soft touch for a 'buy the rental, half the new price', particularly if I'd invested a big climb on it

(So long as the stoker o'my dreams had a good time. So, Maybe not Mont Ventoux first time out?)

Another carbon tandem?! This potentially very interesting, especially at such a low price. I called and talked to the importer, who has sold a couple last year, but otherwise doesn't know that much. He says the frames are made in Italy, and have to be ordered. He is going be talking to Ciocc later today and getting more information back to me.

I've heard back from the importer, Roberto Graziani.

Ciocc has 2 completed carbon tandem frames available, ready to ship from Italy.
  • Black/white, front with a top tube of 56 cm center/end, the rear 51 cm center/end. V-brake.
  • Red/black. 58 cm captain center to end, 51 cm stoker center to rear. Caliper brakes.
Ordering a new tandem takes about 3 months, but now, with August vacations looming, 4 months.

Roberto quoted a very good price for Ciocc carbon tandem frames, as his position is that of a distributor/importer rather than retailer. To find out more, contact Roberto at graziani58@aol.com, or give him a call at (800) 292-5371. You could alternatively try to contact Ciocc directly, if you know Italian (no English spoken there, apparently!)
