LBS review and our upgrades. Sorry for novel!!
First I would like to tell you about our experience at House of Tandems in Spring Texas. (I am not affiliated, related, paid or asked to do this and I hope I am not breaking any forum rules and mods do not remove post.)
I started a thread about upgrades to our Trek T-1000 a few weeks ago. After much thought and considering another used tandem we decided to get upgrades and keep what we have. I am a business owner and must say it is RARE that I come across a company and people that try as hard as I do to please but Ric and Marcia at House of Tandems did just that.
We decided to have new Tiagra components put on as the original was pretty much gone. We also went from a 8 speed to a modern 10 speed. Also added new V brakes. Ric noticed how my wife/stoker was very short and suggested a new hole in the cranks to raise her pedal to position her better. We agreed and this was done. This was last Saturday and Ric said bike would be ready to pickup Thursday. We live 90 miles away.
Thursday afternoon we arrived and bike was ready as promised. We took for a short test ride and all was good. NOW, I had asked about the Selle Titanico seats. Ric installed 2 on the bike and off we went on another test ride. I had read great reviews about this seat and all I can say is AMAZING!. Both of us felt as if we were riding on air.
Back again at shop, I had also questioned about the Spinergy TX2 Wheelset (and here on the forum). So Ric popped some on and off we were again!! Between the seats and the wheels we felt as if we were riding a brand new bike. The difference in the smoothness of the ride was unbelievable.
Now I am grateful that we got to try out each item in stages because if all upgrades would have been done all at once we would not have known how each "individual" upgrade felt. This took some time but we were never rushed or pressured to buy anything.
Finally I asked the total of just the upgrades we discussed (components, brakes, crank) and for a total with the wheels and seats. HOT gave me price for both. He gave me a price I could not refuse for everything, espicially the Spinergy wheels as he just received 50 sets in!
It was just a complete pleasure dealing with them. We left and were off to give the bike a really good test in the Hill Country. That is another thread posted (fifteen minutes of fame video). In the hills the bike was incredible and for the first time I had no "numbness" from the seat pressure after a 40 mile ride.
I could list all of the technical stuff about the components and upgrades but most of you know that kind of stuff already. We were just wanting a more comfortable ride and better shifting. All was done and we never enjoyed a ride so much!
Sorry for the novel and hope to post a pic soon.

Moonwalker,
I can't reply to private messages because I don't have enough posts yet. I have a habbit of reading a lot but only writing if I have something I really want to say.
It wasn't us you saw at Tour De Houston. We purchased a Co-motion from them last september. You can see more pictures of the bike in the thread linked below.

Well I only have 28 post (29 now) so maybe I cannot either. I have never heard of this on a forum.
Very nice looking bike! Congrats. As you, I read a lot and do not post much.
My wife was born blind in her right eye. She is not really comfortable on a single or riding in a pack but loves the tandem. I hope our paths will cross on a ride soon.

One of the most active members of Lone Star Randonneurs rides a tandem on maybe 1/3 of his miles- and he speaks very highly of House of Tandems as well.
I had checked briefly with them when tandem shopping, but it didn't seem very practical to work through them from this far out of town.

H of T was not around then but I am grateful to have found them. Tandems are different to work on and our LBS here just are not familiar with them. I have only seen one other tandem in our area.

Could not agree more on House of Tandems. Ric and Marsha are amazing people and provide some of the best customer service I've experienced in a long time.
