New Wheel Set Options
I'm currently running the daVinci 40h V-22s that came on our tandem. These wheels have been absolutely bulletproof; doing a minor adjustment to the WI hubs now. I have decided to get another set of wheels, probably an everyday, somewhat lighter set.
We're not racers, we're senior citizens. Our specialty is downhill
. We're a 340-350 lb. team and the bike, itself, with rack, trunk, etc. is not super light. I'm talking to my LBS and am considering Spinergy and possibly 36h HED Al rims with WI hubs. There are a number of posts and threads relating to the CF HED wheels, but I don't see much tandem-wise WRT to the conventional HED rims. Information and Opinions welcome as usual.

We really like our Topolino tandem wheels! We have around 3,000 trouble free miles on them and TandemGeek has something like 5,000 miles on theirs.
Light comfortable and they appear to be holding up well.

After talking things over with the LBS I'm leaning toward 36H Velocity Dyads with WI Hubs. Might go with 40h in the back, but the 36h front will say to others that "despite our team weight we are extremely weight conscious". I know the shop will absolutely stand behind their wheels and they built up a number of tandem sets with the Dyads.

The dust has settled and I've gone with daVinci V-23 rims. The additional 4 spokes don't weigh much (40h vs. 36h), probably about 1 week's diet, and the V-22's have been very good wheels. The V-23's have a machine surface so the front braking will be somewhat improved. Save a little bit of money as well. My 25 lb. retirement tandem, if I ever get to retire, will have boutique asploding wheels to go with the asploding CF frame.
