How was the ride? How'd it climb?

Brad; I am familar with that bike and year. My test ride at the time was pleasant, stable and very fast; about the same as the other 5 top brands I tried out at the time! And don't worry much about all the brand partisanship you read here. All the top builders make excellent products and while the differences may be enormous in the eyes of some, for a first time buyer...not so much. Let a few years of experience dictate future investments (if any). /K

the ride was nice. it climbed great. i was a bit tired from a long ride the day before, and the weather wasn't the greatest, so we did a shortened ride, but still climbed up Old La Honda (3.3 mile climb, with average of 7-8% grade). it felt great going up. really easy to spin up with the easy gears on that tandem.

The photo below shows my girlfriend and I on our new Santana tandem.

Congratulations. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. We bought our Co-Motion Mocha new, and even though we love riding it, I kinda wish we'd found a good deal on a used to start with. Now I'm starting to think about something more transportable for touring and have my eye on one of Bike Friday's tandems. Unfortunately, my stoker (wife) who has her eye on our budget is questioning the idea of a second tandem. Then there is the storage issue of two tandems and three single bicycles. Is it possible to be a two tandem family? We'll see...we'll see.
