Stokker stem

Hi,

I'm located in Europe and am looking for tandem stems online. Seems like none of the big online stores have them. I would like to have one that would seat the stokker nice and upright, if possible.

This topic was rehashed at length recently on this thread:

35 degree stoker stem

Peruse this thread, and then ask if you have any other questions.

The stem I need needs to fit a 26.2 mm seatpost and a 25.4 handlebar clamp. I can't seem to find shims that will shim the modern stoker stems to 26.2 seatpost diameter. Do 26.2mm stoker stems exist?

R+E can make one up for you. See http://www.rodcycle.com/. On the left side click on "Other Stuff We Make" then click "Tandem Stoker Stem".

This is easier than you think. First, figure out the clamp size on the stem you want to use. The link posted above to Tandems East's site shows a bunch of them and most are 29.8, so let's say you want to use a 29.8 stem. Tandems East will sell you a 29.8 to 26.2 shim that will be a direct fit for $12. However, if you are able to do a little work with a dremel tool and a file, you can get a cheaper shim to work. The commonest shims are to fit 27.2 or 25.4 seatposts into odd-sized frames. So 29.8 - 26.2 = 3.6mm, and 27.2 + 3.6 = 30.8. So buy a 27.2 to 30.8 shim, trim it a little, and use it to put a 29.8 stem on your 26.2 seatpost.
