New tandem family
My wife and I bought our first tandem just a few weeks ago and despite her hatred of cold weather, we have gone on some good shakedown rides. What is really really cool is that one of my 10 year old twins just cannot get enough of tandeming either and wants to go on rides too. he does not have any winter gear so he comes downstairs in two pair of pants, two sweaters, two pairs of socks and says "let's roll!"
We strapped him into my wife's shoes and he could not even clip in so we now leave the shoes on the bike and he just climbs into them.
What's great is that he is a natural and we seem to share the same brain while on the bike. He is such a great rider and climber on his solo bike and he is already built like a cyclist at 10 and I can feel his power input when we are climbing. What's really great is that he likes to suffer on bikes (much like his father) and I think he can have a bright future in the sport if he chooses to pursue it! I am thinking about building up a small tandem for him to pilot with with his twin.
Picture attached from his freezing cold maiden voyage:

Also, bought a tag along and a Wee Hoo. I really got ahead of myself. I hope he loves to ride as much as we do. Currently in a Chariot he yells weeeeeeeeeeee every time we go fast or corner fast.

Welcome to the world of tandems!
Back in 1975 when we started tandeming, youngest son loved to ride as stoker. At age eleven he did his first century ride!
Have taken our grandkids for tandem rides, and one grandson took it serious enough that he finished the 2014 El Tour de Tucson (106 miles) in 4 hours and 18 minutes, earning a platinum medal.
Riding in the cold is not new to us as we used to live in Michigan and ride when it was 20 degrees and dry. Now living in sunny (and warmer) Arizona sine 1978.
Nice to share our sport with kids/grandkids!
Enjoy the ride TWOgether!

Welcome to the tandem world. Pretty soon, you may need to get a triplet, so that your wife and son can both ride with you at the same time. That's what happened to me.... It makes for wonderful memories.
