uptowncycles.com gone?

Is there a new address for Uptown Cycles website?

The shop is still there, isn't it?

I saw the shop last week and it was open. On Blackburn, right?

The website appears to be non active, however the store is open. I drive by it several times each day.

Well, from the last I heard a couple of weeks ago...they (Tommy) are getting rid of stock...get gear while it's there. Uptown Cycles is gone, but the Sunday night ride is still going.

Wow, that really sucks. Another good shop bites the dust.

IME, a small LBS lasts about 3 years max. It's the miracle shops who stay open longer than that. I want to take a TRE trip to that Rahr bike shop...don't remember the name. Take the TRE to FW, then ride to the shop if it's in decent range. (thanks to tabbed browsing and Google, it's Panther City Bicycles.) Research is progressing.

I stopped in today and got the scoop:

Uptown Cycles closed down in June. A few weeks later, Uptown's manager found an investor and re-opened the shop as West Village Cycles. He is going to be moving the shop 1 block east in January.
I haven't been down there since the Urban Assault Race, back in June.

It doesn't have the same character that Uptown did, (i.e. - vintage bikes on the wall with numerous "non-standard" bikes and accessories), but I'm glad it is still there.

He did say that they are still doing the Sunday evening rides. They meet up at Uptown Pub and start from there. After he makes the move, he wants to make the new shop the starting point.

Yay!!!!

Y'know, I'm not surprised the cost of the real estate is like that there (guessing 1 block east is MUCH cheaper). I don't mind the new place looking like a normal bike shop. The other decor was nice, but they seemed to be hoping for bringing in people who don't really ride but want to LOOK good on a bike. I don't fit that demographic, myself (see the avatar, taken on a real Sunday night ride).
