Packing a bike to ship

Hey guys, I've got a bike I'm getting ready to put up on eBay. I've never sold a bike on eBay before, so I called the LBS to see about having them pack it up for shipment. Holy cow, that's not cheap!! Anyone shipped a bike out of town recently that could give me some tips on getting it packed up myself?

Thanks in advance,
Steve
