randomly decided to ride to Austin

So, a friend and I randomly decided to ride to Austin from Houston (Katy, actually)

We used google maps new bicycling feature. It led us to a couple of dead ends, but we did make it there without dying in one day. All in all nearly 12 hours spent riding. It hurt a lot. It was tons of fun and our respective ladies came and met us there by car with our luggage and more camera gear.
Great ride! I highly suggest it to the folks who like touring. We'll probably do it again soon!

Sweet ride. Lots of miles and hills in one day.

That's awesome! I think the owner of that car lives in my apt complex, because I've seen that plate a few time. AMLI?

I'd love to just randomly ride that far, downtown to katy & back today was pretty brutal.

I agree, local stuff can be rather brutal. I can ride from the west-side to Cypress and back with no problems, but I don't think I'm quite at the point where I can just pick up and ride that far (especially in one day).

I have a friend that may just be crazy enough to join me if I were wanting to do something like that.

You just gave me something to think about....

I'd like to see that route myself. How was the traffic leading up to Bastrop?
