North Irving 100k

I would like to locate a 100k route generally starting in north Irving that could be ridden on a weeknight. I don't live there, but it would be convenient to ride from there after work. Anyone got any good ideas? Are there regular bike shop or club rides up in that area?

Thanks!

I see groups that come through Irving but I suspect that they start elsewhere.

There are lots of places to ride in Irving and miss the heavy traffic. My normal route goes to about 30 miles if I just go out and back, you could add other little areas to extend it a little bit but you would have to do a lot of wandering around to get 100k.

In years past I would go south through Grand Prairie to get to 100k and beyond. I haven't done those routes in awhile so I don't know if they are still viable, and I always did them on Sat. mornings.

There is a point at the extreme of one of my routes where I can go on into Flower Mound. You can probably get to 100k if you do that but I'm not familiar with the riding conditions in Flower Mound.

Hi Stephen, where in Irving? I'm in Las Colinas, and my roundtrip route (when I commute) could be extended to 100k.

Beltline and 635 is the general area. Driving a ways is fine, just at rush hour, that's a slow process.

see if you can reach Heath Lambert / the Sun and Ski club, they ride a lot in that area.

There are plenty of good roads to ride in that area. If you go just south of 635 you cross Regent, a little farther south you cross Royal Lane. You can go west on either of these and find plenty of good road that is usually not busy. Royal lane continues nearly 10 miles before it dead-ends into Sandy Lake Rd. What I usually do is go east on Sandy Lake then north on N. Coppell Rd. to 121, then NorthEast and U-turn under the freeway at Denton Creek then SouthWest to Lakeside Pkwy. From there I think you can go pretty far out but I haven't done that in a long time so I don't know what the current conditions are.

But back to the BeltLine/635 area-
If you go east on Regent or Royal Lane there is lots of riding from there over to Irving N. Oconnor/Riverside. Just east of Riverside you can get on the Irving Campion Trail which goes from Las Colinas to the middle of Valley Ranch. From Las Colinas you can continue southeast along the service road of highway 114 to the vicinity of the old Texas Stadium and then back.

Just northwest of Beltline/635 you can get into other warehouse areas such as Bethel Rd and Freeport Parkway and this leads you up to Sandy Lake.

If I go from Las Colinas straight out to Sandy Lake Rd and back it is around 30 miles round trip. If I meander around some of these roads I can get 40 miles or more. If I go out Lakeside, Flower Mound Rd and Cross Timbers I can get a lot more miles. It is even possible to go around the west end of Lake Grapevine then south into Southlake and get a lot more miles but this would probably not be good at rush hour, maybe better on a weekend. These areas have grown a lot since I started riding there 25 years ago so I would scout them out in a car before attempting to ride them.
