Gotcha... The Handlebar ride is basically Bike for Mike in reverse. In fact we passed them on Winner Foster going in opposite directions last week. The A group is way too fast for me. I can hang on to the B group - they typically average 18+. Last time I rode with them, there was at least a dozen in the B group. It was a fun group. C/Beginners is no drop; they do a 25ish mile route.
A nearby, hilly option is to park at Royal HS in Brookshire and ride to Bellville and back. After you cross the Brazos, get off 529 and ride Coshatte Rd into Bellville. Wife and I did that one weekend when our schedule conflicted with R2R.

I am not going. Never got enough clarity from the weather forecast to feel good about spending the money to register. If the wind is as predicted, that last stretch back towards i10 is going to be brutal! I am going to wake up at 6am, look at the radar, and decide where and when to ride from there.

Rolling Hills was good but tough. Countryside is wonderful, but had to fight a big headwind the whole 25 miles back to the finish. Glad the sun wasn't out since it was already humid enough. Seemed like a small turnout -few hundred at most I think.

Yeah I woke up late and decided to ride out of fulshear after all since it seemed a bit iffy to ride out to Bellville with the showers northwest of town. I didnt start until around 11am and by then the wind was roaring pretty good. I was averaging about 23 up 359 to Pecan Hill but struggled to stay near 13 going south on 1489. Glad the rain held off...but it got hot in a hurry when the clouds thinned out.

EF-1 tornado in SW Houston this morning. Hope y'all OK. We're good here. It was about 8 miles from my apartment.

I'm just north of Pecan Grove. Walked outside to take a look - lots of swirling clouds - but no tornado. Was kind of strange though - no rain, kind of quiet.

Well did everyone survive round 2 last night?
Sheesh. Water water everywhere?
If anyone snapped pics on their rides or commutes this morning, please post 'em up!

Yeah, I spent all weekend with my bike out in San Antonio looking for a window to ride in. First it was scattered storms that were too unpredictable to feel safe going out to ride in, then it was high water on the roads after the storms cleared off. The bad news is that I never got in a ride. The good news is that when I got home Monday night, I did an FTP test on trainerroad and I am up about 8% since late March. I am really hoping that things quiet down later this week and I can get in a good ride this weekend.

Anybody doing the Fayetteville Good Old Summertime Classic this Sunday? My wife and I are planning to be out there and do the 50 mile route. Looks like it is going to be nice and hot, but hopefully no more rain. Which figures, since my new bike will be on a truck to Boise by then and I will be riding my old steel Marin. Look for heavy rain and flooding across the southwestern US over the weekend as my bike makes its way to Boise. That thing is a rain magnet, I swear! We took it to San Antonio over memorial day weekend and we almost didn't make it out due to all the flooding, then barely made it home to Houston before the floods hit there Monday night.

I will be there, doing the full 65. Yellow Northwest Cycling Club (NWCC) jersey, black Felt bike. There should be a group of us most likely, at least to start. I'm less than good at hanging with pacelines when hills are involved.

Well that was a fun ride. We did the 49 mile option and just took it pretty easy. We managed to finish before it got too scorching hot. Some of those cookies at the break points were to die for. Overall a good ride with good volunteers and great food (although the turkey in the BBQ lunch was kind of meh). I loved the "Wrong Way" signs at most of the turns on the route. Hard to miss a turn if there is a big sign telling you that if you go the wrong direction.

Driving down 6 yesterday past the spillway the water still looked pretty high. I'm guessing most of it is still under water. But, I'm probably going for a ride Saturday morning so I'll check it out.

Went for a ride through george bush park from the katy side (FFPS soccer fields) and it's still flooded past the bridge. If I recall correctly, 84FT is when it's low enough to get all the way through. USGS Current Conditions for USGS 08072500 Barker Res nr Addicks, TX
