I have an interesting quandry today. I've been cooking the idea of a long tour for a while now. The lease where I live was up September 1, and I thought of leaving like mid August.
Well, things are changing and it seems I might be able to get out of the lease July 1, I'm not quite ready, but could be if I worked at it. I have read touring journals, where people loose the job, or marriage, or whatever and it just works out and they head off.
My question is, do I trust what others have done, and use these events in my life and load the bike and go, since I've been working over the maps, and training? See, even when I ask the question I feel stupid, cause my heart is racing at the thought of the big lonely highway cranking a way in a head wind that has me feeling I'm not getting anywhere, and why did I embark on this stupid trip anyway.
Any suggestions? Any experience?

I would think if you have a bike that can do it and you are in shape to do it, then go for it... The one thing that always goes through my mind before doing anything is "If I dont do this now, will I ever get the change again" My grandfather told me once..."We dream in life and plan waiting for the perfect time. When the time is right, we are too old to do it"

Well... I was once in a dead end job, and my lease ended, and I had some money saved, and I had people I wanted to see in Australia; so... I quite my job, sold my truck (to get more money), and went to Australia, NZ, and the South Pacific for 5 months. I came back to no job, credit card debt, and having to live with my parents for a few months; but I would certainly do it all over again. There are no great stories written about sitting home. People spend their whole lives not going out and *doing* because they are afraid of: financial problems, security, being alone, other's opinions, blah, blah. If you let fear dictate what you do (or more important, what you "do not"), nothing will ever happen. At least that's what I think. If you've got the money and the time, get the heck out of here!
