Modified SKS fenders!!!

I have been thinking of doing this modification for a while, but couldn't find anyone who had tried it yet.

My sks longboard (p35) front fender seemed to always dump water right on my feet. This seems to be because the mounting bracket on the fender is on the inside of the fender and the water gets diverged outwards.

I drilled the rivets out and removed the fender mounts from the inside. After a little bending, i mounted the mounts on the outside of the fender with a few small screws (which mount pretty flush on the inside). Hopefully this will solve the problem of the water cascading out of the fender at the mount and keep my feet a little drier!

Im going to ride in some light rain tomorrow and ill report back!http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=446240

My problem with S&S fenders is they keep breaking. I am on my third set and at $45 a set this is getting ridiculous. Glad to see you have your issue solved...

I was going through a set of Chromo Longboards/year too, the rear fender breaking at the brake bridge mounting point. This year I made a larger mounting bracket out of some galvanized stock. We'll see how that goes. Mine don't dump water on my feet, but the rear mudguard is much too short, so I added another 6" to it with stair tread material.

I at least have the old fenders to cut up and use as extension pieces on the new ones! Will SKS or Planet Bike ever figure out that both the front and rear fenders they sell are too short? Front ones are too short at both ends even!

I really understand. My longboards provide great coverage. I used a Sheldon's Fender Nut to mount them, and the coverage with the standard mudflap is just short of 100%. What did yours look like before the modification?

just got SKS raceblade fenders with mudflaps. we've (hubs and i) only had them for 2-3 weeks and ride everyday and have done so in rain at least 3-4 times now. so definitely paying attention.

it has kept us dry so far, so am hopeful...!
