Nice pics! 😎 A trestle isn't as cool as a suspended bridge, but still a good effort. 😁😉

hey Mr DeepSpace,
Something to consider--I see you have your seat moved all the way forward on the rails to help with "reach" distance. Do be aware that putting your knees more forward over the pedals too much can put bad pressure on them due to increased angle of your legs at the most forward position. The whole theory behind knee placement over pedals is one thing, but at some time, try putting your seat back at least a few cm's or more and "listen" to your knees. You know, with loaded touring, we work a lot harder and a lot longer than unloaded, so a slight issue that wont show up normally, can be excaberated, or accumulative, so just be aware that its generally not a good idea to have your seat so forward. a shorter/higher angled stem change is easy to do (lots of inexpensive perfectly good stems out there of varying lengths, angles), and would address the reach issue and maintain the "seat to bars" distance that works for you, while having a more knee friendly setup. |
DJB, thanks for your insight, but where i you i wouldn'tbe so quick to offer un sought advice. I started racing in the 1970's and have been touring since that same time. The bike a 1990 Fat Chance i bought new. What am saying is i know my riding position quite well. My saddle position was developed by my many years of road racing, mountain bike racing, time trialing and triathlon. It has worked well enough for more than 10,000 of touring miless, many long distance triathlons including age group wins in iornman canada, and once the holder of national 25 mile tt record. I could fo on.

hey, didnt intend to offend. If it has worked for you very well, then thats all that matters.
In my circle of friends and even in my early experience, I have seen seats slammed forward to compensate for too long reach, and going from my personal experience, my knees feel better when not too far over the pedals. Lots of folks come onto this forum with little riding experience, so just wanted to bring it up. You obviously have lots of riding and hard riding experience. Safe and happy riding DS |

Doug, not too many hundreds of years ago, she would have been throwing the contents of a chamber pot out that window onto your head, and you would have had a face like the guy lower left

;-) You can probably guess that I'm editing the stuff from this year's ride. |
