The real Pike's Peak, as seen from Colorado Springs. If you just ignore the pine tree & gas station, it's actually not a bad pic. 😁

So I'm touring beautiful southern Arkansas last week and come upon this dog, that at a distance seems to have a stick in his mouth and wants to play "fetch"......nope : )

Is that what I think it is: A deer leg?

I don't know who got the rest of the deer but judging by the girth of that dog, he was only stuck with the leftovers.

yes, a deer's leg. One of my fellow tourers and I couldn't stop laughing, probably one of those "guess you had to be there" things.

The more I look at the photo the funnier it gets. Love the dog's expression. Looks to be saying "What? You never seen a dog with a deer leg before?"

I have actually seen a couple random deer legs while touring. One was along the edge of the road in North Dakota. No sign of the rest of the deer. The other was entangled in some debris on the shore of the Yaak River in Yaak, Montana.

Once you actually find downtown Colorado Springs, lol, you can get quite a bit closer to Pike's Peak itself. 😁 Let's just say the lay of the land sits a little "high". 😉😎 I'm backing out again, with thoughts of Arizona in my noggin.

stardognine 04-26-18 11:19 AM

I don't mind the deer legs, just hate the smell of skunk perfume, dead or alive. Just got a good whiff of that yesterday. 🙄😋

Ha, there must be some sort of a llama movement afoot. I've lost count already, this year alone. 🙂
I tried crossing the Rockies again yesterday, and gave up, 18 miles west of Salida, near Monarch, CO. They made those "hills" kinda long & steep, lol. 🙄😉 https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e97619b92f.jpg

Are you talking about Monarch Pass?

Probably, the sign I saw said 6 more miles, to a pass. I was already pushing the bike for several of those miles, and could tell I wasn't doing well on water & such. 😟
FYI, I'm on a long-term rehab, for my left knee, so still finding my "limits".
On the bright side, riding pretty much the whole 18 miles back, without pedaling, is pretty darn cool. Probably took less than an hour. 😁

I did Monarch Pass back in 2000 while touring out west. Definitely hard, especially after doing Hoosier Pass from Breckenridge and then Tout Creek Pass the day before.

The top used to be home to the highest Subway restaurant in the world. Don't think it's still there. Coming down the other side, heading to Gunnison, I got behind a cattle truck. The early part of the descent has some curves, so I could go faster than the truck. He waved me around but I stayed back so I didn't have to ride the crappy shoulder. I just made sure to keep my distance in case one or more of his cargo decided to take a pee.

stardognine 06-20-18 05:52 PM

Glad to hear you say it's a tough hill, I don't feel like "quite" as much a loser, lol. 😁 Last year, I only got to Canon City, so got around 70 miles further, this time. I might give up on hill climbing, and try some more "regular" touring. 😂
I got most of the way back to Cotopaxi already, gonna camp near a rest stop, that the rafters use. Watch out for those buses, lol.

Here's what it looks like, to the west of the Royal Gorge. It's like someone gouged up the ground, with an iceberg or something. 😁 https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ac88b6054c.jpg
