Wow "str"! Those pics really capture some of the beauty of that place! I say some because there will never be any substitute for actually being there, but wow!

What's the story behind the graves there str?
most graves in the Caucasus look like this. marble stones with a very realistic image of the death ones. also many graves have fix installed tables and chairs, families come together there to eat and drink. |

Looks to be a shepherd judging from the staff and the sheep in the background. He'd probably be quite hospitable towards you. |

Georgians are super friendly. my last week there I just asked around in the little villages if there are "guest houses" around, no need to look long, most of the time the first person invited me to stay in their house. shower, dinner, own room and breakfast any problem. out there in the country side all of them live self supported, cows, pigs, chickens, do their own bread, cheese, marmalade, big vegetable gardens, well .... all of it.

Happy Feet, this might get you a little more excited. This guy walked right through our campsite, past the bear box, and down to the river (BC's Selkirk Loop, tour #2 this summer). Best wishes on your ride.

Maybe not as grand as some of the senic views presented in this thread, but sometimes I take great interest in the smaller things. I had biked down this roads many times before. It is in Arkansas on highway 71 South of Fayetteville. It is on an old section of 2 lane road that was left after they put the newer 4 lane superslab in. This little side road also has a wonderful bridge dated 1930.
I stopped and took a break and looked down at my feet and saw this. That concrete looks to be in pretty good shape for being 85 years old. Look how well the letters are formed. I love to find things like this as I travel; really gets me day dreaming. I can just picture someone kneeling down and creating those letters. The last pic is from Google Earth that shows the old cutoff road with the location (about) of the inscription. Also a nice church and old cemetery right there at the bridge. You miss all this stuff on the superslab. Looks like Wikipedia has a page about this section of road and it is also on the National Register of Historic Places: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_U....and,_Arkansas) https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8480/2...13db7bb9_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8412/2...83e90619_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7798/2...bae15ca6_b.jpg |

Some areas are inhabited with fishing villages. I passed by one where boatmen were repairing their boats. https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8801/2...44d212e2_b.jpg 20160826-IMGP3755 by jenkwang, on Flickr https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8416/2...032a1e46_b.jpg 20160827-IMGP3795-1 by jenkwang, on Flickr |
