Ya, never underestimate the "bull in a china shop slash moron level slash Don't give a F" aspect of people--years ago, a family member was moving and I was helping the moving company guys bring out the bicycles at the end. I say to the guy that I'll get an allen key so he can turn the handlebars, and without hesitation he replies, oh no need, I just give the bars a hard pull and that works.....was a burly guy. |

What are the 2 handlebar bags brands/models? the bag on my daughters bike is a old Velo Orange, mine is a Carradice Nelson Long Flap (will only work with a wide handle bar or like on my bike with electronic shifting). |

The famous or infamous, depending on how you look at it, 4.1 mile (6.55 km) long Megler Bridge, connecting Washington and Oregon on the Pacific Coast Route.

Doug, I took a bus from the portland airport to astoria and got a cheap motel room, but remember looking at that bridge and thinking that on a windy day it might be a bit dodgey biking over it.....
I remember going to a local bike shop there for some reason, and ive wondered if fietsbob was working there or any of the other Oregon bike stores I dropped in during that trip. |

I was there in 1994 and have no recollection of Astoria, a very very vague memory of the bike store and motel, but really just remember meeting a son and dad from north Carolina at the motel starting their west coast ride. Spent a few days riding together, always remember their strong southern accents, had never heard this in real life, only in movies.

Robow, that's a great shot, one we just never tend to see.
I prefer using my older p+s camera, non waterproof, so would never take it out in rain like that. Year's ago I got my wife a shockproof, waterproof p+s, but I never think of using it on trips because the zoom range is rather limited and the picture quality is just ok---but it would be great to just never worry about the darn thing in any weather. |
djb, I generally carry a Fuji point and shoot waterproof camera that I also use while fishing. It's very light and convenient and I don't pamper it whatsoever but the optics are only adequate.
