West Coast of Sweden north of Gothenburg where I live to close to the Norwegian border and back on my newly built up bike. Bianchi Lupo frame (same as Volpe) Deore/105 3x10 speed drive train, bar end shifters, V-brakes, A719/XT wheels... and a Yamaha CS40 3/4 guitar. Old school and a beautiful ride :)

The ferry in the background goes out to the island of Orust in the archipelago, pulled by steel cables

2 night trip to the Allagash Wilderness

There are abandoned Locomotives in the middle of Allagash wilderness in the middle of nowhere. Apparently a missguided idea of transporting unassembled locomotives to the middle of frozen northern Maine backfired after the full size locomotives failed to perform. These locomotives were carried into the wilderness by horses on sleighs in the middle of winter. The transport was so arduous that it became too costly to simply carry those locomotives out. And there they are until today.

I have always wanted to see it . to do a self powered trip to see the locomotives.

initially I thought I would ski to them but this involves too many miles to pull off in one weekend then I thought I would fat bike to them but this too involves over 100 miles on on the fat bike in unpredictable conditions.

In addition an access to this area is controlled by checkpoints. These checkpoints collect fees for camping and recreational use but also forbid bicycles to enter.

I created a loop that would traverse snowmobile trails and tertiary dirt roads to avoid traversing on company logging roads where logging trucks transport lumber at high speeds usually leaving you in a plum of dust and debris. In theory, I thought I would claim a plausible deniability but in reality if anyone with authority caught me on any road that is forbidden - ignorance of the law does not necessarily mean being absorbed from the consequences . that’s why I decided to do this trip alone.

everything worked out , save it for several bushwhacks from which I had to retreat. The trip was 153 miles that I covered in 2 1/2 days.

here are some of the photographs.

I had a slow leak puncture on day one. A helpful family driving by told me I can camp here...said they know the landowner. All good. Swapped tubes and sealed the puncture.

Buffalo Bill’s house in “The Silence of the Lambs.” A short detour off the GAP in Layton, PA. The basement scenes were shot elsewhere.

I'll tell you something funny...I was about to enter the tunnel when I saw lights coming towards me. Decided to wait to avoid a possible collision of cyclists. I got impatient after the lights seemed to be coming so slowly. Didn't realize they were walkers until I got close. Anyway. we chatted for a bit and I told them I had to take a photo. At the end of the day, when I posted this photo, I originally stated there were two walkers. Then I looked at the photo and saw there were three, so I edited the description. I had no idea I had been talking to three people. Freaked me out a bit. Notice the woman in the middle has no flashlight. Ot maybe there really were only two living people and a ghost photobombed the shot.
